That is so sweet! Kids can be so great, sometimes it almost makes we wish I'd had one.... almost.
I read this to DH and nearly spit out his coffee he thought it was so funny! At least it wasn't an Uggo.

Can someone tell me who coined the name Uggo? DH seems to have a need to know.

I don't know why it came out empty. But I know what I tried to quote. I hope you win Raz and I hope they don't limit it to just 3 hens. What the heck is their reasoning for that? Bureaucrats!

I'm with 1mutts. A 50-50 would be a great thing to do to help with the rental (which for some reason I had no idea the pavilion cost money, what was I thinking?

) Just goes to show ya having a college degree doesn't guarantee common sense. But NO BIRDS in the raffle. uhuh, me neither.
EXCELLENT idea! Being one of us northerners mid August would be a great time of the year, you southerners could escape the worst of the heat, we could sleep a little later. Now I would love to have it way up here in Barton City, we have 2 pavilions and a lake within walking distance, but I am quite willing to compromise, say Clare or Mt Pleasant? Much more centrally located LP-wise and according to mapquest about 83 minutes from Lansing to Clare, less to Mt Pleasant. Just and idea, I'm sure someone on here knows more about that part of the state than me. I just asked DH (MI native) and looked at a map.

I live near Clare, you know Harrison has a beautiful park with lots of trees that would be a great place to have it. The rent for the pavillion is $25 I can go take pictures of the park. I know of a park that has a wonderful lake and it dosn't cost anything to rent the pavillion in Lake George the water is so clear and beach is wonderful. It just got revamped, has a fishing deck and new play area. Mt. Pleasant has several parks that are very nice I don't know what the cost would be but I can check it out.

I'd be open to a more northern location, it would even be fun if there was camping allowed for those of us who may not have chicks to go home and take care of lol.

As for the chicken raffle, that could be a separate raffle and only those who want to add to their flock would buy and one could always donate their win back into the raffle if it wasn't a breed they wanted.

We always do separate raffles, one for $$$, one for prize items, and one for live animals which could even be rabbits or an 8 week old CX ready for processing.
I think all those ideas are great, count me in!!

Raz - where is West Branch ???
East of Houghton Lake as the crow flies, they have a beautiful park with a very cold stream running through it lots of trees, the have the Victorian Festival there in August around the second week I think. The rest rooms are big for the life of me I can't remember a pavillion they must have one though. When I was there it was for a craft show and with all the booths set up I just can't remember. By the way its a very nice craft show they always have yummy bbq and strawberry shortcake.

lol, I love it when people ask for directions to my house and ask which exit # to get off at and I have to tell them that I have absolutely no clue, I've lived here forever and never looked at the number, mapquest it

Thats too bad needing a license for a raffle, I never thought about that
sad.png
I too think it should be members only, no need to invite strangers when we can split the cost ourselves.
As far as the raffle if its just our CS group who's going to know or who's going to tell on us? So you mean to tell me if I have a family reuion and we wanted to have a raffle to cover expenses we would need a license? Lets rebel and do it anyway!!! I know I can be a trouble maker.

AWWWWW JEN!

Poor you poor pig...those were very nice people!!!!! My kids sat there holding their pig all day- and begging me for their rabbit!!!

ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

they had a son named Robin? Right? Someone has a son named Robin- who my kid is head over heels for and has texted a hundred times since then!

JOHN- Clover is doing very well. She is indeed a sweet rabbit! AND...let the record show, "I told you you were going to get that bunny! Trix is a great name!"

LOL! Robin is my nephew who's down visiting from the U.P. We dragged him and his mom to CS and they had a blast.
So he DID get your daughter's number! That is too funny.

I didn't see the donation jar either! I'd be more than willing to send some $$$ though. Just PM me where. I, too didn't event stop to think about the fact that the park may have cost something. Duh! I'm so sorry.
So, I have a roo issue that I'm hoping you all can advise me on. I ended up with two EE roos(supposed to have been pullets). They are 14 weeks old now and the dominant roo is terrorizing all the girls. I tried telling him they weren't ready for that kind of attention yet but he's a bird brain and didn't get it.
tongue.png
So, is this normal roo behavior? Will he mellow out or would I be better off to cull him out? I don't NEED these two Roos but they are pretty. I realize they will mostly just be eating up my feed. He bit ME the other day too! Then stood there as we both were in shock I think. I smacked him and he ran off. Sheesh!

VJ, I have a EE roo and he is only not even four weeks old and he is so bossey that the girls can't even go eat unless he lets them strange how young a male can be and think they rule the roost, darn birds anyway.

Olive, I think you're spot on!

There are laws regarding how close you can be to a dwelling, while shooting a firearm and the direction shooting toward... etc.. but those are details I guess. Basically, she'll be looking at felony charges if she wants to be that stupid!

Don't let the insane one get the upper hand, I know you already talked to the zoning guy.. but honestly, I believe she escalated it already by threatening with a gun, makes it worse (hopefully she doesn't have one)... I'd call the police and talk to them about it to see if you should file a report against her.
My son-inlaw, the guy that was at CS with my daughter who is frightened to death of chickens he's a police officer in the Lansing Police department, he makes sure other police officers are doing there job right so to speak. I will ask him about this nut and what would be the best thing to do. She can't say she's going to shoot the rooster or your flower as far as the goes.

M.Sue... what time do you let your alarm clock out? I don't let Mr. Fluffers out until 9 am. He is housed in the inside part of the coop, so even though you can hear him, the people across can not. We are AG here also, but the people across the street are residential. I don't like to irritate them to much. HEHE. SO, I think 9 am is a fair trade off for that. And I have only heard one person complain about all the dang roosters. That would be my mom. LOL. There are currently 5 crowers at the moment... and 2 of those are actually not mine.

My uncle came today. Gave him the little banty cockerel for the slow cooker. He's just passed his 18 months to live mark. YEAH! He has liver damage, and is not a candidate for transplant.

More prayers are needed for my sister. The last surgery has not fixed the problem. This time they are doing a full open cavity surgery. She has been on a bile bag for nearly 6 weeks now. The bile that is leaking is starting to cause internal damage, and she ended up consulting a different doctor with her case. The doc that did the initial surgery, and then the last surgery, told her that she just needed to get up and move around to build up her stamina. Her heart rate at resting has not come down out and is clocking 106 when she is just laying there. She's dropped another 10 pounds, and is complaining because her bra's are no longer necessary, and were already padded, but now can not even find one to fake it, and unable to control her body temp... She'll be sweating bullets when its 65 degrees and she's doing nothing... Well anyway, I need to sign advocate papers tonight. Her doctor is doing a dye test through her liver to try and find the leakages, so he knows what he is going to be up against when he goes in there. She may end up having to go to the other side of the start if Spectrum here can not do the dye test. UGH! But now she's officially moved back into a life threatening situation. Crazy no longer describes this situation.
Sorry to hear about your sister. Why is it so hard for the doc's to fix us?

Your poor sister. Keep her in our prayers.

Quote: I told them my meat birds were at home these were for show. I don't have a problem with eating my chickens but like the truth. My poor gullible husband believed it when told they were going to show them. He now has an idea to bring every old hen or rooster in the neighborhood next year.

Farmerboy - It's good you live at the other end of the state those emu are just too tempting! I was informed I'm not allowed emu.

It took forever to get through all the posts this morning. I woke up with plans to clean house and coop only to discover my back isn't going to let me. The only thing I can think that I did to set it off was moving 2 bags of quickcrete yesterday. Loading into a cart and out of a cart is just impossible. Maybe I'll be stretched out by afternoon. All of my youngsters are ready to go into the small coop and the older chickens have moved themselves into the large coop so it's good timing.
