There is a processor in Fowlerville, operated by a young couple. There was a newspaper article about them last year but I didn't look for it.
http://www.munsellspoultryprocessing.com/index.html

They have several links to other processors so there may be someone closer to you.

I would like to learn how to do it myself and I looked at the pictures and videos and read the "how-to", but I learn things like that more effectively under the tutelage of a mentor. Besides, I don't have a really good knife.

I called Munsell's and left a message (they were processing).
So if anyone wants a Silver Laced Wyandotte rooster (2), let me know soon.

Great link! Although I might have to find someone closer. Then again, Aric is SO sure I won't have the nerve to help him with the turkeys this fall. He used to butcher turkeys, chickens, rabbits and all sorts of animals for a living. I told him I would help him pluck feathers if he does the hardest parts lol. I think if I showed him a link to a processor he'd think I was backing out LOL

Munsell's farm is only a couple miles from my inlaws, they are good people. If their poultry processing is anything like the rest of their products, you cant go wrong! It's very easy to get to from I96 also.

I missed crabby jrs post??

I love Hunan... He might have to stay.

Anyone want a young Barred Rock roo??? (or Showgirl??)
Cause he is gonna goto freezer camp or maybe right into a pot.

All 3 of the BR's that we bought... eat a ton!!! I have never seen a bowl of food disappear so fast. And they even get to free range! WTH?
The BR roo has a broken beak... not sure if it was like that when we got him but he gets along just fine... I figure it will grow back out.

They just called me back. The 2 SLW go next Thursday.

The lady on the phone (Rachael) was super nice. She said drop off between 7 and 8 am then pick them up after 4:30.
I said that I was driving about an hour to get and she said that I could wait and she would get them done in a hour or so. How nice is that?

My Mom's brother lives in Fowlerville so I will see if my Mom wants to ride out and visit. I doubt she will want to go.

Well I guess it's not hotter than hades here, however, I put ice bottles in the rabbit pens and started the sprinkler on the groung around them. Next is the chicken runs and then the duck pen. I put some old grapes and lettuce in the freezer for later. I hate to do it but back to work

First, I had to help my brother remodel and put in a tub for someone, started at 8:30 am, had to leave at 3:00 pm to get ready to be at work at the Dairy farm at 4:00 pm,left the farm at 7:35, went straight to the hay farm. My hay boss let me to go home at 10:00 to milk my cow, finished milking, and got back at at the hay farm 11:00.
I slept in this morning....
No one will be able to call you lazy for you are such a hard worker. Your parents should be very proud! I can honestly say that I only know a few young guys your age now a days that work as hard as you and are so willing to did!! Your young, you work hard but make sure you leave room for some fun!

Guess what... I have crowing here!!!

Congrats......I love the sound also!!!!

For you guys that wet down the pen and put sprinklers/misters in there......Doesn't it get pretty messy and gross? I mean with the mud, dirt, poop & all. What do you have for the flooring in your run? My coop is on grass & we move every 3 wks. so I was thinking of wetting the run down for them because so many of you do.
