Man is it HOT out! All the big girls are under the willow so we toted their food/water out there to them. Waffles and her crew are shacked up in the kennel so we stuck a fan out there and they are so happy now. The frizzle and all the silkies feathers are blowing in the wind like a super model photo shoot.

They just plopped down right in front of it. Spoiled babies.

Nova - I'm so glad your sister's surgery went well. I'm praying for her that this will be the END of all that for her.

Raz - I'm so mad for you about the chicken case. How insane to make this a criminal thing. I wish I needed a SLW roo but I have no plans to breed my two SLW girls.

Rusty - WELCOME!!!!

Who posted that link to butchering chickens? Man that was very graphic and incredibly interesting! Thanks! I saved it for future reference if I ever find myself needing to process some.

Farmerboy - I think you should video your long crower and post it for us!

M.Sue - SO envious of your awesome garden! Good job!

Jen - My guess would be porcelain.

Fuzzy - I'm sorry about your bunny.

I posted the link. I thought about butchering my own chickens but after looking at the link....eh....I'll just pay someone else to do it. LOL

I was able to get home and give the chickens watermelon this afternoon. I refridgerated one and froze the other (in halves). The girls were circling the frozen melon like a preditor. I am not sure that they knew what to make of it. The white silkies that I got from Robin at CS are sure to be pink by the time I get home.

Hi guys! I am new to this site, and actually new to chickens in general. We started our first flock just a few months ago and it has been a fun and fascinating hobby! We love it!
I am blown away by this website, it is so cool to connect with chicken enthusiasts all over the country! I was recently directed to this part of the social forum and how cool to connect with fellow Michiganders!!

So HOT today! makes me wish the air conditioner in my car hadn't broke last week!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. (my name is Rachel and I'm located in Lowell, which is in west michigan, not far from grand rapids)

I have to put Vanna down... SO TOTALLY SUCKS! I think I may contact my MSU extension office and have a necropsy done... No other birds are showing any symptoms, and this hit so fast. She has not lost the weight that the other hen did, but she has the super poopy butt today, and the heat has kicked her hard, so, I am not going to be letting her suffer any more today... Another beautiful dotte... SO MAD! And for once, I am super mad at my vet for not getting back with me at all about this...

Jamie - yeah, it looks pretty gruesome. I found myself being very thankful for the processors who do this all day, every day.

Nova - Aww, I'm sorry. Man that sucks!

Welcome Rachel. We just started our flock this spring too.
