Olive & Chickflick.....thanks for the pay ideas. He will have to do a little extra just because of the extreme heat. Plus I will have a written guide for him to follow just in case he forgets something. The frig will have pop, water, & gator aid for him to choose for on his ride home.

The EE's found their way to the garden last night for the first time. Shelby has been over there many times scoping out the other hens. He keeps his distance for Dusty is usually there to stand guard of his flock!

When writing your guide you might want to check the weather. I don't know when you're planning to leave, but tomorrow is supposed to be the last really hot day for a while. Next week is supposed to be down into the mid eighties for highs and sixties at night, perfect summer weather! Might save the kid some work.

We're planning on leaving tomorrow and he already knows he'll have to do a little extra.....spray the pens down, ice bottles in the water, frozen treats etc.... I told him tomorrow will be the most important day to be on top of things due to the heat. Even though their pen is plenty big enough for them, I feel bad because they won't be able to free range for a few days. I did make up a nice huge dust bath for them though!!

Looks like you came and stole my chickens!!

My sitter lives across the street, so a bit easier. Her and her two moms keep a close eye on my critters. Mia always came over to visit with my chickens and finally they got some chickens last spring.
Hope we can survive one more day of scorching weather. Keep cool!

I think today was far worse than yesterday as far as humidity. For the time I was outside early this evening I literally was soaked.....felt like a wet dishrag!

What do you guys think would be a good price to pay someone who is tending to my flock while I'm gone for a few days? He's thirteen and does a does a good job. He will have to change the water 2X daily since it's so hot, will have to come over & open the coop, collect eggs, give an afternoon treat, come back & lock up. It will be a total of 6 trips he will need to make. I can't remember what I paid him last time but I do remember he got a haircut out of the deal and got to keep all the eggs he collected.

Any suggestions because I'm clueless

......I've never even had to pay a babysitter for my kids, family was always available & willing.

I would say $30-40 for all three days
They are all so pretty!!!

We had an overcast morning. DH and I actually got to weed the garden this morning. I was "glowing" quite a bit, but at least didn't have the sun beating down on us. Once the sun came out, it was unbearable. I feel so bad for the chickens. But, I give them fresh cold water a few times a day and let them free range to find the shade. I have water bowls all over the yard. I also give them nice cold watermelon. Still, they walk around panting, poor things.

After roughly considering everything that needs to be done and considering his trips (he does not have to travel far) I was figuring some where around 30 -ish. He will have to make several trips.

That little storm that the rest of you got was a big storm here. The front edge came in sounding like a freight train

Went out about 3 am and was back on about 3:30 pm. I fear for the farmers who don't have their wheat out yet.
It blew in big here, too. My DD came downstairs after a particularly big boom woke her up. The wind was whipping around big time. Our power went out at 2:30am and we didn't get it back until around 5pm. It was a miserable night of heat and not a lot of sleep.

I have to say DH did a heck of a job keeping all the animals watered and tended today without the usual means due to the outage.
