Got my very first egg today from one of EE's, they are 17 weeks old. The second picture shows it compared to a store bought egg.

WHOOPEE !!! & congrats on the egg too.

Yay!! Lots of new egg layers!!!

Went to the neighbor to buy some eggs (my oldest are 14 weeks... no eggs yet) She says all hers are clamped up from the heat

Juise: The mirrors are to keep aerial predators away. I just googled "mirrors as hawk deterrents"
What I read said to hang mirror balls or put mirrors on the roof of your coop... they see themselves or from the sun reflecting back... they get confused or scared and leave the area.
I would imagine you could use hand sized mirrors or if you used a lot of little ones on the roof (could look pretty sweet!)

for Kim and the bunny that survived and for those with eggs for the first time!

Duck eggs are truly nasty sometimes. Most of mine (33 ducks, 17 females) will not lay them in the coop. They're usually by the water bowl or pool no matter what the weather is! Sometimes they will completely bury them in the straw which often isn't fun to dig for! We have two fridges, one mostly for the farm stuff. We put all the eggs in the crispers then clean them all at once. We just did up 8 dozen chicken and 5 dozen duck on Thursday which is a miracle with all of this heat! Today I sold my first dozen eggs in 8 days. That's a record. We haven't received any calls on anything we have for sale on craigslist so I know people are staying in. Well, except for the lady that bought eggs today. She said she was going to her grandson's baseball tournament. I think it's wrong there were any games in this weather!

We had our first heat casualty. I'm so sad it was my favorite leghorn! She was only 4 months old but super sweet! She was fine when everyone had morning feeding and fine the first two times we went out there to mist everyone. But Aric found her when he went out there to clean the barn

Everyone else seems to be doing well. The pigs are having a blast in all the mud, the ducks love it when I hose them down and even the chickens and turkeys don't mind the water! I picked up 8 bags of frozen veggies and they've already gone through 4.

Hang in there everyone!

Thanks Keyt. Foo foo is living the good life indoors now with fans.

So, I just found the little chick dead. I dont get it????
It WAS hurt/knocked out yesterday, but today it was FINE every time I checked on them it was running around with its sibling and Mama Hen. In fact, I couldnt tell which of the two it was, any longer.

Now, I just went to hang up a couple new fly traps and -put out some DE for them all, and it was in the middle of their yard, dead.

delayed fatal injury?

Possibly an injury that took a while to manifest. The chick was trampled, right? Could have been a very, very slow internal bleed, or something like that. Some chicks can bounce back, others, not so much. Sorry for your loss.

Chimmy,Hewie is doing fine .Your daughter told my wife his name was Hewie.

Gads, people. Enough with the booms already. Yeah, I know there is a lake behind us and all, but it's no longer the fourth. My goats are not liking all the firecrackers. They jump at every one, poor things. If it's not the heat, it's the big scary booms out of nowhere.

Mom2- sorry your little chick didn't make it after all you did for it
