Thank you all for the welcomes!
keyt1969, Eaton Rapids is a beautiful place.
RIRJen, I know a family in Holt. Nice place!
And UP residents, I envy you. What a gorgeous landscape.

lol, most of the taller weeds are actually chicory which I have been picking and feeding to the rabbit and chickens.

I'll work on the pics.

Here's a few pics I took from my front porch. As you can see, there is no living grass and the plantain weeds are everywhere with a few chicory spread around. I could understand if I was neglecting my lawn but it's been 90+ for the past 2 weeks and the first day it's in the 80s, they give me a ticket and I can't even mow because it's raining grrrr! I'll be the first to admit the weeds are long but 24 hours to cut them is ridiculous especially when the notice was left at 6am. I think its a ploy to make the city money. The officer who stopped by was nice about it and also thought it was crazy because he had another 150 houses to go to in a town with a population of 3446 in 2010.

I think your hometown is off it's rocker - they don't have enough for their law enforcement officers to do that they waste their time writing baseless tickets? Sounds like they need to lay off some staff and save the taxpayers some money.

If those are ticket able weeds, mine will send me to jail for sure!

Just got a ticket because my weeds are too long, I have until 6am tomorrow morning to cut them or I have to pay $100-150. There must be a better way to spend tax payer money than having a police officer go door to door handing out tickets for weeds

These little towns are getting out of control with their need to control every little aspect of a citizens life.
I would not be surprised to get one for my ornamental grasses, natives and butterfly garden.

It was explained in the last city council meeting that failure to comply with the weed ordinance could result in fines and jail time.

Several years ago I had planted 6 flowers around my mailbox. Around this same time I had been complaining about a very large tree that supposedly belonged to the city because it was on the opposite side of the sidewalk. It was rubbing on our house and had killed some of the roofing material. No one came out to do anything yet they gave me a $225 ticket for the flowers. I went to court over it because it didn't make sense to me that they would complain about a few flowers, on my side of the sidewalk on the edge of MY yard but they wouldn't take care of their ****** tree that was ruining our house. I won but two years later when we sold the house that tree still hadn't been taken care of. Two years ago a tornado came through and the winds knocked that tree over, straight into what was our bedroom and they had to rebuild that whole upstairs corner.

This is the only thing I hate about small towns and the reason why I'm glad we live outside of town.
