Snowflake, I just had that last week. I used the super shock and swim. I used a double dose, changed the filter, put in 4 chlorine tabs an put the cover on. The next morning the pool was from green to just cloudy. Last night it was clear. I just have one of those pop pools. 900 gallons. I can not forget to over it at night, or forget to add the chlorine. I also was not shocking it at first because the directions are for a 10,000 gallon pool. After doing the math, which was a pain, I needed to use 6 tbsp for a double dose and 3 for regular. I put the rest in an air tight container. Don't o vinegar. You can use a cup or 2 of straight bleach to get your chlorine ppm back up as well.

My silkie who wanted to go broody has officially gone broody. She is sitting on one egg, and I doubt that it is even fertile.

Does anyone have hatching eggs? Could really use some, please.

Pools are a PITA. It's taken us a month to get ours back to normal. Algicide works well for green color but I suggest taking a water sample to a pool company, they usually test for free. I've had to treat mine with a whole bottle of pH down and then 4 treatments of muriatic acid to bring the pH down and I filled it with city water lol.

I don't have a real pool, I wish lol. Real pools are actually easier to maintain because once you get them going they hold steady. I have the 42"X15' pvc pool from walmart and like it except the stupid filters need to be rinsed/cleaned out or replaced every day. I am not complaining though because it has been a god send this summer since we don't have air conditioning.

our pool has been a mess this year too. it's GREAT at growing algae though! i think i'm going to scrub the walls down, bleach it well, and put it away. the kids haven't used it since mid-june anyhow!

update on thesneezing chick......it's still sneezing, but seems a little more active. I picked it up this morning to listen to its breathing, and there is still clicking.raspiness. I think that I'll give it 9 more days, which will give it atotal of 10 days on tylan, and then strongly consider culling. (of course, now the cuckoo is dropping a wing when it roosts/lays down.

so i need to figure that out too.)

Our chickens used to do that when they were relaxing. Are you sure that is a problem? I would give it the antibiotic for 9 more days and I would be treating chickens who shared it's food and water and living space also. I wouldn't worry about body posture until the chick has fully recovered! Good luck!

Update on my little roo.
As the day went on he was progressively getting worse. I had got him to drink several times on his own. By late afternoon and early evening it was with small syringe. I had a mix of Duramycin and vitamins with electrolytes. TSC I found carries very little meds for poultry. I decided no hope. Before I went to bed I decided to culled him, so he wouldn't suffer anymore.
Yesterday, after I separated him from his siblings I thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the brooder. I also did the feed and water containers. I started his siblings on the same meds hoping I could ward off this evil bug. Is there anything else I should do? And how long should I continue the meds on the siblings?

HEY! Stop talking about your neighbors like that.

from my 18 week old production red that DH named "Red" lol. It's 52 grams, beautiful for a first egg.

Someone tell me if this bahavior is normal; I went to check on the chickens this afternoon and found Red in the nest box and our cockerel the same age was also bedded down in the next box over. He was clucking to her, then he'd get up walk in front of her, then go in the box on the far side of her and get comfy. He stayed in there with her the whole time, getting up and "checking" on her every few minutes. At one point he stood in front of her box for 5 minutes. She is his favorite pullet but I thought this was pretty odd, is it?

Welcome asans!!!
Congrats!!! Isn't it fun! We are going to "blow out" our first egg and display it. Luckily it's a cute little brown egg with speckles.
