Hello snowflake.

I was spotted. Usually I don't have much to say, just trying not to get left behind.
Hope you have a good time this area of the state, swampducks.
I'll be camping in St. Clair for the boat races this weekend. So far the weather forecast looks good so hopefully I won't need to go home to check the chickens. No problems so far, although I have been giving frozen water bottles, spraying the run, and chicksicles (frozen fruit pieces). When I'm not working all day at least, then they're on their own. Their run is secure (I think, hope) so they hang out under the coop all day. Fan is running in the coop all the time also. Entertainment is 4 mama hens with 9 chicks between them ( thanks Theron). One hen is in a brooder- hutch thing and was out with her chicks while I was changing waters. The little bantam hen was acting tough when the Marans hen came close to the chicks. The Marans hen said heck no and a chick fight was on. First I grabbed the Marans hen and tossed her (forced short flight). When she came back I sprayed her with some water and wow did that end things fast. She thought the bantam hen must have some super ninja power so she ran off.

SO, can anyone provide me with an easy, zesty recipe for canning pickles? I've canned many things in my life and I've always wanted to try pickles. I looked up recipes but there were so many that I don't know what's best. Plus many of them required a lot of ingredients and I just want something simple!

Oh wow that's awful about your brother! I am SO sorry!! I'm glad you have a sister to be in your life. I also have two much older (56 and almost 60) sisters. The oldest one had a ranch and I lived there every summer growing up so that's where my experience with farm animals comes from. My other sister is...just..umm...tolerable LOL.

The Thanksgiving before my mom died we were all together and my mom said "When I'm gone you girls won't even bother with each other". I haven't spoken to them since my mom died in 2000

Not for a lack of trying on my part! Growing up I had always wanted a brother. I've known about Neal since I was about 14 and he's only a few years older than me! Oh, and part of his job is working for American Idol...BONUS!!! LOL

If you don't have family then you don't have anyone. Mom always said that when no one else will be there your family will. And I have found this to be very true. I love my sister more than life itself and there is nothing I wouldn't do for her.

If you don't have family then you don't have anyone. Mom always said that when no one else will be there your family will. And I have found this to be very true. I love my sister more than life itself and there is nothing I wouldn't do for her.

Well, I'm 43 so that makes you....umm.... LOL

Growing up it was like having 3 mothers for me haha

My family is very weird. My step family (my dad...whom I have never gotten along with...remarried in 1999) is awesome. But the family I get along with the best is Aric's. His mom treats me like her own!!

Keyt, it awesome that you are going to meet your brother. I hope that this story will have a happy ending. Big family get togethers etc etc... What kind of goosers?
My mom has not spoken to her oldest child in bout 15 years. She hunted ME down to find her. I guess I have one of those unforgettable names. Well anyway, she is in Omaha, wants my mom to go out for a visit. Um... No. Why? This broad told one of her perspective bunnies that she was in a nut house. Told my mom that everything was her fault. Don't get me wrong, my ma ain't innocent, but there is a point in ones life where responsibility comes into play. Then she had the nerve to ask how my ma could love my sisters kids, since they are half black, and my kids who are have Mexican. And says that we must live in. Dump since we do not have central air.

Nd she wants mom to go visit? Sad thing, if my mom doesn't do a will, this thing is her legal next of kin. Some people should never be found.
we had rain most the night. More today. I rigged some roofs over the feed stations. Hate dumping feed.
No coon in the trap this morning. Not even triggered. Another dead coon on the road though. Boo hoo.

Make sure your mom has a will.....

also a medical directive and a paper that gives you power of attorney if she becomes unable to decide things for herself.

Nope, never canned anything or made jam or anything like that. I have done just about everything with animals but NOT the Suzy Home Maker stuff. YUCK. LOL

Got to watch the storm last night, and all of its glorious lightning......hit land about 20 miles south of us.

I don't begrudge the Manistee area their precipitation, but it would have been nice to get a little more rain.

Have to go pick more tomato worms this morning, and more sqaush. They aptly named one of the types I planted "early prolific straight-neck squash" because I'm picking at LEAST 2 of those things every day from 4 plants! I've already started freezing it and i can't imagine how we're going to eat all of it this winter!

With all the housing stuff......we got lucky. Finances kept us from getting started on building when we wanted to, and we just closed on our house last year, so we got a really good interest rate....but lady at the bank made us plenty nervous about the appraisal though, since we built it ourselves, and house values continued to fall while we were building she thought we might get stuck upside-down on house value vs what we had to borrow to build it. Luckily, we didn't.
