I posted this in the Duck forum this morning, but haven't heard anything, and I don't know how important it is, and I really don't want to worry about my ducklings more than I'm already going to while I'm gone. Can anyone help me out?

I have 2 ducklings who are just over 2 weeks now, and I am wondering...is there anything that I might have around the house that I can give them for grit...i can't get to the store again until we get home from camping, and I gave them peas, not knowing I needed to give them grit too (they are on duck starter feed as well) so what do I do now? Thanks!

A few peas won't hurt them. I give my little ones green things before they ever need grit. Its most important for grains. I think your gonna be ok. ( ( I've got about 80 ducks ))

I didn't see Layena either. I just found it odd that after I bought Purina, I find this recall.
My main point was how does one return feed (or any product) after it has been recalled? Especially after it has been repackaged and/or consumed?

If it's not simple I can't do it. My sister now is another story though. She can take scraps and make a gourmet (sp?) meal from them. Mom taught her how to cook. I was always out playing football or baseball or something.

Whew, I mean, I just started posting again, and I thought I had offended someone already. I don't try! I mean, I try to be nice, I swear. Sometimes I wonder if it is because it can be hard to pick up on what a person really means online and I am just too sarcastic, or if really I'm a rotten person and I just don't know it.

I consider your fruit popsicle both food and sneaky! My food tastes good, but sometimes my presentation is a tad lacking. Not that it looks terrible, but just don't "pop". But i recognize the art when i see it, lol.

Oh, thank you! Well, I am a very visual person, my husband makes fun of me for that kind of thing all the time. He can cook yummy things, and then glop it onto a plate so that it looks like you're getting gruel... He can make the same thing I make, and get a totally different reaction from the kids, like... "Eeeeewww, what IS this!?" and he is confused because I just gave it to them the other day and they love it.

I do believe he is beginning to get it, though, even if he doesn't generally bother himself, I think he now at least appreciates it... same as gift wrapping... He used to not believe the care I will put into wrapping gifts, and their presentation, and I tried to explain the way it makes you feel, and... meh. More recently he has started to tell me how much more special it makes him feel getting pretty looking gifts, and how it makes receiving them just as exciting as unwrapping them...

Of course... this also means I have a really tough time mowing the lawn in boring straight lines, too... but he is staying firm on this one, haha. Just wait. One of these days, he is going to come home to find a great big penis mowed into the lawn. I have been resisting for years! Now that I think about it, though, I better do it soon, before the kids are old enough to get it.

Lady, grab a tupperware container, tray, or something the chicks will be able to jump into, walk outside, and get yourself a nice tub of dirt or sand. Put it in with them, and they will love it.

If they are eating dirt with the food or playing in a puddle or "rooting" around they should be just fine! I never bought grit for chickens or ducks and both lived fine with the dirt and rocks on the ground!
What a good mama for worrying though!

What?  When did that happen and why don't I remember reading about it?  I always thought that she had such a pretty name.  Sorry you lost her.

Had a pretty quiet chicken day.  I was happy to see it rained last night.  Not only is our garden flourishing from it (we have cukes and zukes coming out our ears), but I love watching the chickens scratching around after it's rained.

Awww, I knew it! That's it, I'm off to be a pirate...

I don't think I would ever win any lawn mowing competition, unless there is a category for who took the most excruciatingly long time, had to restart the mower the most times, yet saved the most tiny critters. >.>
