Bob, it won't hurt to separate your broodies. Even if it just means putting a divider between the nests. The reason is that they can compete each other off the nests and eggs can get kicked around inadvertently in the process. This is especially true if one has chicks hatching before the other. They can compete for the chicks and forget about the eggs. As for the eggs, 10-14 days is fine. Most will tell you 10, I've set them even over 2 weeks old without issue. I figure the geese and turkeys collect for much longer than that themselves and they don't have any issues.

I Must have the dummy hens, mine hadn't a clue what to do when sitting on eggs except to sit.
I lost my first one to constipation because she would not get off the nest to eat, and ate some of the nest.... then did not drink the water i had set in there. A few days into the setting i figured out she wasn't getting off, but by then it was too late.
My second hen lived, but i had to put food and water in there plus lift her off once a day to go potty. She would not get off willingly either. I tossed her out into the run, and it usually took a few minutes for her to do her business, then i let her back in. She always ate like she was starving, and when i valued my skin i put the food and water in when she was outside!
I did candle my blue eggs at 1 week, with a mag light. I taped a cardboard over the light with a hole in it. I didn't see detail, but the duds were clearly visible compared with the ones that were developed, they were dark half way across the egg.

My broody Uggo was pretty dim as well. She sat on a golf ball for weeks while I pulled eggs from the other nest boxes. I tossed her from the nest nearly every day for several weeks so she could drink and eat, but she kept going back to the box. It's only been the last few days that she "broke" and is now out with the other hens in the run.

Are you talking about BYC or for it to be permissible in court?

In the case of BYC, it's written into the user agreement that you "sign" when you register. By posting you're agreeing to the terms of use and one of those is that they can use whatever you post here.

In the case of prosecution, it's covered under the Fair Use clause. Fair Use of copyrighted materials is allowed in a variety of instances. If you're briefly quoting another author, for instance, or if you've derived inspiration from another artist's work. As long as you haven't directly copied and are not competing with the original author/artist in such a way as to reduce the market for their work, generally speaking, you'll probably be covered under Fair Use. Court proceedings are an extension of this clause and it has been repeatedly upheld that use of a defendant's copyrighted materials are permissible as evidence against them in court proceedings.

ETA: Something to understand is that copyright laws (and their related consequences) have been written to protect people whose work is intellectual in nature. IOW, to protect the marketability of the work. If someone took your posts from here and wrote a book based on your life using them to shape it, that'd be an infringement on your copyright and defendable because they'd be making money off it... thus reducing the money you could make. If someone sold the pictures you posted here, that'd be copyright infringement. Because your posts and pictures aren't marketable materials though you'd be hard pressed to defend them under copyright laws unless someone else took them and somehow made them marketable and then you could go after that.

I don't think it applies, I know it does. "Guests" to facebook routinely harvest information for prosecution purposes. Anyone can take any information they have access to and enter it into evidence in a case, the judge can then determine it applicable or not -- as well as permissible or not.

As for the veracity of your statements... honestly, Raz... I don't really care. I was just answering your question about the legality of them harvesting your posts for use in court. One thing I do know for sure is if you've been lying here to lead them on and then that whole thing gets dragged into court it won't reflect positively on your character. Judges generally do not appreciate their courtrooms being turned into three ring circuses.
