My beautiful black stag is changing! AAARGH!

He is growing gold, yup, GOLD hackle and saddle feathers. The black still has the pretty beetle green sheen to it, but now he's getting gold. Must be from his momma, she's a dark Cornish with the brown and gold lacing.

Oh well, he's a pretty boy still. He's really tall and wide though, and only what, 20 weeks now. Luckily, he doesn't crow too often - mostly around breakfast time and then just a bit on and off during the day. "Sergeant Pepper", one of my "past" roos crowed from 5 am to 2 am, it was horrible. Then he tried breeding the ducks, so he took a trip down the freon highway.

I have a nice Barnevelder that doesn't crow much either. I am very luck with my boys.

Well, going to check the bunny in the oven. Guess all you MI peeps went to bed. Night all, check back with you tomorrow. Keep cool!

You're very lucky! My 20 week old is sitting in my fridge awaiting the bbq tomorrow. He crowed too much, hasseled the pullets, and tried to breed one of my 12 week old EE, stupid chicken almost killed her. I can actually enjoy watching them again, I didn't realize just how annoying he was until he was gone

Toadflax according to Wikipedia

So it is related to snapdragons! I did not find if any were edible...

Sadly, my eggs never started Still, cool experience !! And now I know how to handle eggs ! Anyone know where I can get CHEAP breeder eggs ? Hint hint; I don't mind mutts. How have all y'all been doing? Leaving to new orleans tomorrow and my baby hamster looks like she's in labor Hope all is well with u guys !

Ok... I took fuzzy's advice, brought in Mr. F and made him eat. He was not very co-operative until I pulled out..... The chicken. Chit you not. Jace did not finish his cordon, so, I thought, why not. Holy Moley! He went to town on it like a chicken starving! Oh wait, he was! Well anyway. He had a nice little ball in his crop, so I set him back outside next to Criptoe. She has a nice 10 inch board that she roosts on, and she cuddled right to him. Chicken... The only thing he would eat was chicken... Sheesh.

Lost internet again yesterday for most of the day. Sadly, there was no storm/rain/wind to attribute to the loss. Hmmm. Gotta wonder why?

Also received very disappointing news yesterday. The breeder I ordered chicks from called. I was expecting 16 Araucana chicks to be hatched and shipped out yesterday. She called to inform me that only 2 hatched, and last week she lost 18 birds to the heat. When I ordered the chicks, I was told the hatch date would be July 24. Only a couple of days before they were to hatch, she e-mailed me that she was confused, because they had been on vacation and didn't have eggs in the incubator for that hatch date.

She offered me the choice of a refund or waiting for the chicks. I chose to wait. Hope it was the right decision. I think I might still look for other options. Don't know what they are unless I look around. Right now the heat is the biggest problem. I think we have all had enough of the heat, for so many reasons.

Pippin, Frodo and Ebony, However Pippin ends up called Pip Squeak a lot.


I woke up on my own by 7:30 and don't feel like I need to go back to bed, so maybe I will actually get something done today. I'm just glad I have a down week that I have that choice! I was thinking maybe the beach today.

Nova - How is Mr. Fluffers doing after his big meal? Poor guy.

Bretheren - sorry you didn't get your chicks. I'm sure they will be worth the wait. It took me 2 years to get one of the breeds I have and I just love them to death, nothing like spoiling your chickens.

The BR roo is GONE!!!

He is sitting in my freezer. I am embarrassed because he barely weighed anything. It looks like I got a tiny cornish hen or something. The processor is probably having a good laugh at our expense.

It is truely amazing how the flock dynamics have changed in just a day. They seem more calm.

Now I have 3 big men on campus! And all 3 are practicing their big boy crows!!!

One sounds like "Waaaaaaaaa"

One says "ERRRRoooooooh"

the other "ERwaaaaaaa"

I still have 2 black showgirl roos...FREE to a BYCer!! Come on they are super sweet!!

Chicken... The only thing he would eat was chicken... Sheesh.

My chickens like fried chicken... the BF thought I was gross sharing mine with them... They loved it!

I am not big on eating the skin so that is mostly what they got.
