Now the long wait!

All set and ready!

Today I went to my mothers house.....she had 2 broody hens that just started today....What I should do???? split my 11 eggs between the broodys and my homemade bator? Put them all in the bator?. Leave the nature take its course? but what if they need help hatching and they are with the broody? WHAT TO DO?

If it were my choice on the eggs with the incubator and the broodies, I would set the incubator with most of the eggs, and let the broodies have an egg each, they will not have their broodiness broken up easly and will accumulate more eggs over the next couple of days.
I am hoping that a couple of my hen go broody to.

Ok...I placed 3 eggs with the broodies....and 8 in my bator. Yesterday instaled a thermostat and is so much easier for me. I just need to check from time to time and turn the eggs. Love it. Hope it works. Hope everyone has great hatchings.

Thanks for everything.

If you are using a home made incubator or don;t have an egg turner, the easiest way to turn them would be to take an egg carton, remove the top flap that closes the carton, then remove a portion of the bottom out of each egg holder, ( leave enough of the egg carton so the eggs don't fall out) put your eggs in whats left of the egg carton and put something under one end or side ( depends on the size of your incubator) to elevate it, This way you can change which end of the carton is elevated several ( 2 - 3 times ) per day, in effect turning the eggs, will save you the time that it takes to turn each egg by hand. ( I have only done it 2 times per day on work days though. On the 18th day remove the eggs from the egg carton and lay them out in the incubator. In the incubator I use, I put strips of an old towel in the water well, add water ( to increase humidity, don't forget to remove the last plug on the 18th day) put the wire back in place, lay paper towels over the wire then put the eggs on top of the paper towels ( makes clean up a lot easier after the hatch, as everthing in the incubator bottom is really gross after the hatch is done. Just roll up the paper towels and throw them away. ) Throw away the old towle strips and clean the incubator out real well. This has been working well for me over the past few years.

Mabhera,
if you get welsummer chicken eggs you can tell ( most of the time what one are girls and what ones are boys by the way they look when they hatch out. Or do a search on here for sex link information, it will tell you what breeds to cross to be able to tell the sex of the chicks when they hatch by the way they look, is not allways 100% but is better than waiting until they crow or lay an egg !
