Day 21, and we have a fluffy little Cuckoo Lemon Orpington! This is the sole hatchling from my 6 shipped eggs, and I am so grateful for this chick, because my dear little broody Sebright sat so patiently. (The other eggs in the pic are infertiles, stolen from my laying hens).

I consider my mid-May hatch a success, because of this one little chick and my happy broody who is clucking at it. It is a bit absurd having a 1 lb Sebright mothering what will be an 8 lb Orpington, but I think she can handle it.

So I was correct about the one egg being garter along. I thought about 4 days, turns out it was 5 days ahead. Tuesday around 8pm it had an internal pip. Then had an external pip around noon yesterday. And I missed the finale but found it completely out of the shell around 9 pm last night.

Here is the sweetest little blue baby ever lol

One down, 17 more to go....
SO DARLING!

Hi :frow
I have a hatch due next Saturday. 18 buckeyes and 3 chanteclers. I candled last night and they're all doing swimmingly.

I went to a sale yesterday and came home with a mixed dozen eggs. One of my OEGBs just went broody, yesterday being the first full day she stayed on the nest. So I took a chance and gave her 2 EE and 2 buff chanteclers. I added 2 EE, 2 buff chantecler & 6 partridge chanteclers to the incubator. They will be @ day 4 come lockdown for my first batch. My plan is to contain the new eggs in a carton and try hand turning as much as I can. Will the higher humidity effect their development?

I don't think I ever had a chance to post the results of my hatch last weekend (other than the one that hatched 5 days earlier than the others)

I had 18 eggs go into lockdown and had 16 hatch. Of the two that didn't hatch, one was a quitter and the other looks like it died in the shell just as it was finishing absorbing the yolk.

Here are photos at one week of the 14 I still have (I sold 2 of my Amerauca chicks yesterday)

Oh, those are the cutest chicks! I am in love with all of them!! What are your tips on getting such great photos?

That sounds like be a lovely mix of birds to hatch! How is your broody doing? Is she staying on the eggs?

The high humidity may slow the growth of the air cell. If you candle the eggs and mark the cells now, you can candle again after your buckeyes and chanteclers hatch. If the air cell hasn't grown enough (due to the high humidity), then you can drop the humidity to 35 or so, and see if that will allow the air cell to catch up to where it should be. Once it does, you can return the incubator to standard humidity.
