6wks old, I was told the breed was a midnight majesty Maran, but can’t find hardly anything on them. Do you think it’s a different breed? Also do you think this is a rooster? It definitely is the protector of the flock and has been like that since 2weeks..

Google midnight marans and you’ll see it’s a Hoover’s hybrid - not a breed. They advertise feathered legs but being a hybrid that’s hard to gaurantee. Even when breeding pure marans feathered legs can vary and it’s one of the things considered in selecting the mating pair.

Your chick looks just like a few other posts on here so I’d say it is the mix you were told. Better pics in natural light would help. Should have some brown underfluff and some mossy brown.

I wish they wouldn’t use the term “marans” in the name. It confuses people to think it’s part of the marans breed.

I also have a midnight majesty maran, she/ it looks the same. It's 4wks old and kinda acts like the protector . But she us the biggest of the 3 I have. I was also starting to wonder about it being a roo. The lady I ordered from, only orders females from hoover hatchery, but people do make mistakes. Let me know what you find out, please.
