none of my mallards are clipped, but they're in a big flight pen, with a covered top, they don't fly much, but when they get to playing they do.
Mallards are seasonal breeders, and layers, and lay from about late feb.-august I think. my two girls started laying last february. they lay an egg a day like other ducks, but go broody on a whim, one of my two girls has been broody twice this year, she's now sitting on one of her own eggs, and 4 blue swedish eggs LOL.
as far as being docile, mine never were very friendly, even though I got them all as babies, they come up to me now, but don't like being handled.
