Might lose Delilah... UPDATE: Seems Okay At the Moment

It's not the least bit cold here, so no heat lamps needed. Was in the upper 50's today. She is definitely not right. Delilah is feisty, doesn't like to be caught or held, so this is very, very different, not a normal kind of sleepy at all. Pays to know your birds, folks, it really does.
Just awhile ago, she catapulted herself out of the playpen, knocking off the screen we put over it to keep her in. Not sure what to make of all this. I was going to keep her in the house, but that may stress her out too much.
What do you think I should do? It will be in the lower 40's tonight, not cold at all for all the body heat in that coop. Should I just take her back out and see what happens in the a.m.?

Catapulting might be a good sign, right??? I definitely will be keeping my fingers crossed for her and she will be in my prayers.

Given her personality, I think you are right.... taking her back out where she is familiar with things might be better.

Gosh, this is a weird one. So glad you caught it and gave her some TLC.

I hope she was just feeling weird from something she ate out there. The birds have been eating lots of pine needles off trees we cut down; perhaps she ate too many, if that's even possible. All the birds were eating them; my guineas used to, supposedly because there is some nutrient they know is there. All else is the same as usual except DeDe is acting very off and lethargic.

I believe she is just having a bad day.We do,at least I know I have bad days every now and then.So why cant chickens? My thoughts are with you.And once again I think she is just having a bad day.

that is how my couple of hens acted 2 weeks ago closing their eyes and sitting not moving then they got ok when I started letting them outside and free range.....WE lost 2 goats this week....Shania was my favorite and she died then one miscarried triplets and died....we think it was coccidiosis

I hope you're right, Kevin, but I fully expected her to have a seizure and die in our arms awhile ago. She seems awake now so we took her back to the coop;she ate a few bites of layer feed, drank some water and ate some calcium. Guess she'll live or she wont. Heaven knows, there's nothing to treat that we can see. I just did what I always do when a bird isn't right--looked her over, checked her mouth, checked for injuries then syringe V & E water and honey into her mouth, then got some olive oil down her, just in case it could help.
DH thought her airway might have been partially blocked and her oxygen levels were down, but she wasn't gasping for air. If that was the case, though, maybe the oil she ingested eased it on down. She looks better now, so morning will tell.
This all happened after I found my Lt. Brahma with blood all over her head and feet. Was looking for a head wound, but found none. Finally, we saw that it was just a toenail bleeding. Whew! I'm about out of adrenaline, I think.

Hi Cyn. I am so sorry for your troubles!!! I would put her back in the coop. She'll be more comfortable, and even though you'll be fretting over her, at least she'll be more at ease.

I'll be sending good thoughts her way...
