Migraines!!!!

This is a really good idea too. Just get 'em to the point where they can prepare simple stuff, and make sure to keep that stuff in the house.

Also, I did all my own research. I just went to the family doctor and said, I would like to try Relpax, and he said ok, and wrote the script. BTW, I use the 40mg.

Oh, they are 15 and 10 and fight worse than cats and dogs. So, they will be okay. However, they both are sympathic pukers. So, when I get sick they both will start getting sick also. Which totally sucks! We are all fighting for the bathrooms. No matter if I am in a room by myself and not telling anyone, they both get sick about the same time I do. My poor hubby usually is running around like crazy.

I used to get terrible migraines from hunger, dehydration, lack of sleep, stress, and most importantly, hormonal changes (short one around ovulation and a few long ones during and shortly after my period). For some reason, I was virtual immune from them pre-menstrually. I am now taking oral contraceptives continuously (no placebo pills, no periods) for a gynecological problem. In addition to treating that issue, they have virtually eliminated my migraines too! I know ocp's are often contraindicated for severe migraine suffers, but my gynecologist said that it is fine to do a trial, and if they help, it is ok to take them. Just my two cents.

*A Carolina Chick* :

I have had multiple migraine journals. I can't take any of the Triptan's (Maxalt, Imitrex, ect). I have been on B vitamins, Topamax, BP meds, antidepressants, other anticonvulsants, and multiple others to prevent them. I have had MRI's, CAT, EEG's and numerous other tests. I have fasted for weeks only taking in no caffienated liquids and then adding things to my diet one at the time. I have been to Migraine specialist, chiropractors, and multiple neurologists. I have had bone cancer in my jaw that did trigger some of the migraines. I woke up with one this morning and now it is storming here. BC powder has not helped and I am out of the Toradol. I need to go back to the doctor to get my script renewed. It is getting worse. I will be vomiting in an hour or two. So, I am getting desperate. I used to go to the ER everytime I had one, until I discovered BC powder. The toradol has also been a God Send. Now, I need something else that I can find around the house, as my DH is in South Carolina on a fishing trip and I am home alone with the kids.

I hope you read my earlier post. You say that you woke up with one and now it's storming there? That just screams "barometric pressure migraines" like I get. I think you need to journal the weather patterns as I said earlier... You might be surprised.
Nothing in your life, diet, supplements or otherwise will help if they are from the weather. You just need to find the best treatment. Imitrex can be wonderful if the dosage isn't too high. Why was it that you couldn't take it and what was the dose you were taking? I know how horrible these things are and you have to find the meds that work best for you, even if you have to tweak the dosages and try different combinations. If all else fails, see if your doc will send you in for hyperbaric oxygen treatments to help equalize the pressure. Breathe good, clean air deeply through your mouth, and sleep, sleep, sleep if you can't get on medication or something that works. I hope you get relief soon...I know your pain and it is really terrifying. Take Care!

I love toradol, best thing ever. To bad you can't only take the pills anymore

Yes, I get horrible migraines. PMS migraines and food trigered. I have tried all the migraine marketed meds to no avail. Ugh, I hate migraines. There have been a few where I hoped I would die. It's that bad.

I know that no one will even suspect I am sane after I post this...one reason I am reluctant to tell anyone about it, but I have one VERY strange thing that helps some. My dad used to do this for me when I was a kid, and now, when the headaches are really bad my kids do it for me. I lay down with my eyes closed in complete quiet then I have someone ball up their fist and pound (not hard but not light) on the exact spot the headache is centered. It actually seems to bring back your sanity....you know when you can't even focus and it almost feels like you are going crazy from the pain. It won't make the pain go away but seems to balance it out a bit and helps me get through. Don't know if it would work for anyone else, but it always has for me.

Wow...so many things here make me nod, "yes, yes, YES!"

Go Veggie mentioned frequent yawning...I never conciously realized it but I do that, too, when I have a headache coming on...that and the extreme fatigue. And now that I think of it, the yawning headaches are the weather headaches...another piece of the puzzle.

I tend to panic when I get a migraine, then I cry because I feel so helpless, then poor hubby will come try to help and I cry harder because there is ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY NOTHING that can be done for a migraine. If I catch it IMMEDIATELY and take my Imitrex, I'll be fine. Otherwise, I'm down like I don't know what....just DOWN. Lately I have tried some cognitive therapy on myself...just remembering that even though it's very painful, I've gotten through them before....etc. It helps a little.

Imitrex changed my life. I used to be afraid to take night classes in case I got a headache...driving in the dark with oncoming lights and a migraine coming on is truly dreadful for me...I remember driving home groaning as loud as I could because it was the only thing that seemed to help.

I hope you get some relief, ACC. Can you take Zomig?

I was wondering if someone was going to say that. I have definitely had migraines where I thought I was going to die or thought death would be better than living with that pain. It is a total body pain that you cannot explain to people who don't get them. I hear ya' on the death thing...and I am a life loving person when I am not dealing with a migraine. My four year old has a special drawer she goes to for her and my two year old so they can get snacks and stuff if I am incapacitated on the floor of the bathroom. She's had to learn a lot for her age.

Migraines are awful, and no one has tried "everything" because the medical profession is working all the time to come up with new meds, plus there are so many combinations of all of the above, that you should never give up trying medication if at all possible. If you cannot avoid triggers (like weather

) it's the best way to get relief??
I switch all the time because I become immune to the positive effects of medications after a certain period, and then just start getting rebound side effects.
I have had migraines for years, but more specifically after 1999 when I had a pituitary tumor removed from my head. When I had that, I used to hurt so bad, I would ask people to shoot me? My migraines became daily affairs after that, with multiple triggers including environmental, dietary, etc.....I now have multiple lesions in the white matter of my brain from the migraines, where the white matter is actually damaged and demylinating due to the migraines...You can still function through the pain with management - I hope others find things that work! I currently take Ultram 100mg regularly, Tylenol with codeine for breakthrough pain (my migraines do respond to opiates, many DONT), Imitrex as needed (9 a month) and Topamax 50 mg in the am and 50 mg in the pm. I work full time as a Social Worker for Children's Services, care for a family including 3 high maintenance boys (adopted with issues

) , we have over 100 pets on our property that I care for, and our hobbies keep us moving all the time.
I have found that if I dont give in, I will not be "owned" by my pain. Yes, sometimes you gotta puke. But that only takes a few minutes! I keep moving, and feel better than when I curl up and let the pain take me over.....
Also, there are some great sites on the internet that offer Migraine information - I have gotten alot of information there! (It helped me at work, I got the information needed to get the strong perfume odors in my office reduced - I hate to be that way, but perfume is a BIG trigger for me)
