Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs

What I would be curious about is if you work for the hatchery, can you have backyard chickens at all?
I know that if you work for any of the commercial chicken companies, Tyson, Pilgrim's Pride, etc, you are strictly forbidden to own backyard poultry due to bio-security issues.
Maybe we should ask Teri (from Ideal Poultry). She's a BYC member.

really? i didnt know that.

i cant remember where i read it..but dont some of the chicken plants have you care for them in your backyard? i couldve read it wrong but it seems like i read something like that on here or elsewhere.

Okay, please enlighten me. When sexing a chick, exactly what is so rough on them? Do fingers go *shudder* inside the chick?

I didn't even know they don't sex bantams.

Our farm is surrounded by commercial houses where the people grow broilers for Tyson. Two of these growers are my best egg customers. They come slipping up here at night to buy eggs.

I was asked to leave one of my DH's acquaitances properties because he knew I kept backyard chickens and he's a commercial grower. How rude!

I was upset about it for months.

P.S. I was j/k about my egg customers slipping up here in the night, but they don't let it get around that they buy from me either.
