Mildew and mold: HELP!

I think I'm going to have to paint everything with the mold-resistant stuff... once we dry out again!

You also need to make sure that the bedding in the coop is dry dry dry. Any water leaking in will make conditions for mold/mildew better. I'm in Portland, OR. No problems with mildew or mold in my coop. Your heat combined with the humidity is likely more of a culprit. In the NW, it's really quite dry in the summer when it's warm. When we're damp in the winter it's cool enough not to be a big inside mildew/mold issue.

I reside in the tropics and my Silkies are not in their coop yet. Tomorrow they will be 1 month old. Pretty soon their coop wil be completed and they should be ready to enjoy their new home . We have ALOT of rain almost everyday which is the norm year round. I have ACV and also distilled vinegar as well as liquid bleach in stock. . Does anyone have the ratio to water for all the products I mentioned above? I will try either ACV or distilled white vinegar first due to the harshness of liquid bleach to caretakers and environment. This does not eliminate my thoughts on using it ,just that I would prefer the less impact with same results in the long run.
Proper ventilation along with diligent cleaning in the coop is extremely inportant for our health as well as that of the chickens.

Hi everyone! Wet on my side of Atlanta too. My poor hens just got their 2nd dusting with poultry dust (premethrin type) for bad mites; with the guys home they muscled the soggy tractor/coop to fresh ground behind the garden and we scrubbed everything out and toweled it dry. Fresh brand new pine shavings. Since I had thought they were only getting muddy I feel pretty bad. Two have lost a bit of weight and the others are lighter too. Someone has stopped laying altogether. Poor biddies! I've been giving them extra protein as advised on BYC - cheapo canned dog food and yogurt mixed with oatmeal.
The main hutch/nest box door is swollen shut; have to open the cleaning panel up to check. Last check poopies back to normal but after cruising chicken illnesses all afternoon yesterday I'm watching every moment I'm out for sneezes or something.
I left the pop door open all night, risking raccoons, but I wanted it to have more air movement.
I used Dr Bronners (well, my son did! I just asked for buckets of hot soapy water and he used a good quantity of it) I worked the poultry dust into all the cracks and a few shakes over the chips. Hope this works - I'll do it once more in a couple days, and if that doesn't work

Is there any way you can put an occilating fan in the coop to keep the air moving?

No electricity in mine, so no fan.

The run now has puddles... never had that before. Had to dig a trench to divert water that has never been a problem before. Doors are swollen shut. It is just awful. I'll bet ducks would love this!

poor girls, how are they doing in the rain? I'm checking mine - today only 3 of 5 usual eggs - scooped all the poopied damp wood chip bedding out and replaced. It was pretty dry in there. Moved the coop/tractor to fresh grass. Don't know what else to do. Should I treat for worms as well? Or was it just the bad case of mites? They had done so well all summer until now. It's storming again.
No electricity in mine, either. I can only open the pop door with a lever pole and the big side panel used for cleaning - nest box door is swollen shut too.
I think I'm suffering more than the birds in this weather.

I've had to resort to desperate measures: they have been temporarily moved to the back screened porch. The deluge yesterday afternoon created a waterfall that cascaded around the coop and run (never seen anything like it in that area of the yard in 12 years) and swamped it. It drains quickly, but still.... I couldn't leave them in it all night worrying that they'd end up swimming in the coop. Not a great situation. Not really a normal situation.
