So those chicks that are black with the white underbellys are called Mottled??? I hatched out one Baby that looks like that.

like I said previously, I really don't love the male. Some of you may remember I was having a heck of a time with fertility with the mottled and the last hatch was a hail mary... I wound up with 1 fertile egg... this guy... so I can't be picky.
Here are some grow-outs from my hatch with a different mottled/buff columbian split roo I had over the winter. I wound up with several nice roos I sent packing as they were no where near the right color. Im thinking now I should have held on to them to see about type but, I didn't

Here's the one male I kept because he has that brassiness that I think will help with color in the next generation. not a very good pic of him with his head behind the waterer but, you get the drift

Here are a couple females

and here's who Im putting them to
10091_042.jpg

I just picked this guy up as well as quite a few other birds from another breeder who was downsizing.
Here's one of the hens.
10091_007.jpg

She has a shade of buff on her breast and has that same "off" pattern that I've seen before. That hen (I have since sold her) threw some decent looking pullets with an even distribution of pattern. Here's that "off" hens daughter

and here is that same pullet now

So, that's where Im at

You got the whole low down. My other coops are all stuffed to the hilt with chicks and juvies so, there will be lots to choose from this Fall. I can't help but feel like Im all over the place with this project. I wish I realized at the beginning how much time this was going to entail so, I wouldn't have felt a bit of dissapointment not seeing huge progress right away like I have seen on many other projects. It's hard for me not to feel competitive so, I will just be happy for everyone and hope I can help someone else by learning a bit from me.

Is everyone pretty much getting plain, off-white eggs from their MFs? Those of you who have been in cochins a long time, is that the norm among all the bantam cochins?
One of my hens lays an egg that is a little deeper tan, with speckles.
Just curious!
