Mille Cochin Info

Someone just sent me a PM with a gorgeous pair. I won't show it since it isn't mine but it is as close to perfect MF as I have ever seen. The roo is fabulous and the pullet is typy and has excellent pattern.

The above photo is a very nice roo indeed, too.

Meeting at your local feed store is usually a good idea.

Heather, how do you approach asking for a deposit? And do you just have them sent it via PayPal?

And dang! I know I've seen that gorgeous roo before!

Unfortunately, it just wasn't in my coop!

Here are Mr. Big and Cary at 4 months old. Eggs purchased and hatched from Tate and I just love them.

Send me your "rejects"! I am having a really hard time getting MFC's here! Tried having eggs shipped several times, ended up with a zero hatch, another zero hatch, and 2 out of another. I know it's not my 'bator or the eggs themselves (the eggs have all come from very reputable folks here on BYC), and my own eggs have excellent hatch rates. The USPS just likes to play football with the packages!

Heather gave a good example of a male. Here's what I would think a female should look like

Basically, this but on a basketball shaped body

Here's an old pic from my boy from Lynne... really nice example of good pattern on a male

Yes, Maggie, it was your gorgeous kids! They are awesome. That roo is spectacular!
I am striving for that pattern on my boys but I get mostly red with some black and a little white. I know I need patience but with every hatch I hope I will get an "Omygosh!" bird. LOL

I am so glad everyone is working on getting good patterns and type. I know a lot of hard work has gone into making some beautiful birds.

K7 Menagerie,
I have had the same thing happen here with shipped eggs. Don;t feel bad. I put a lot of money into buying eggs this past spring to have so little to show for it. I was super lucky to get these starter birds for the MFC project and have not ordered any eggs in from breeders as I knew I would just be throwing my money away again. I trust the breeders but not the PO. I would love to ship you my rejects to you but the PO has stopped that since it is so hot here. Have you seen my rejects on my website? They aren't bad but they are just works in progress. They have type but not color and pattern. I'm getting there .........slowly.

Erin, When I get the money together, I'm definitely going to order one of your beautiful pics! Maybe by then I'll have a BLR to go with an MF!

Still waiting for someone to admit to harboring that gorgeous roo!! It's time to share!

Here's an update pic of a young pullet. I have been really battling the "couple a pointy feathers" that seem to often stick out of the cusions on the mille fleurs. I am hoping this early photo shows a cushion that will stay rounded and no pointy feathers will poke out at a later date. Cross your fingers for me!

Mags Your cochins are beautiful Hold onto them as Tate has gone out of business. I just successfully hatched out 4 from a dozen from him they are only a few weeks old. I had the chance to purchase more than 1 dozen eggs from him but didnt take it. Had I known he was going out I would have purchased them all. 3 out of the four look to have promise the 4th looked more gold laced so we will see.
