Mille Cochin Info

I didn't know Tate went out of business! Bummer....I got a dozen eggs from him a while back, 7 hatched, 1 died.....6 became 2 girls and 4 boys. The 2 girls are gorgeous and have nice type and beautiful markings. I have one gorgeous boy in the bunch, two that are "neat" looking and 1 buff columbian mottled looking guy. Definitely worth the money for the eggs.

My entire mille fleur cochin breeding program is based off of a single mille fleur bantam cochin roo that hatched from a dozen eggs I bought off of eggbid. I got them when I was first getting into chickens. Saw those beauties and just HAD to have me some. My first purchase, luckily enough, was mottled cochin eggs. Got I think nine pullets hatch out of a dozen eggs, and with that little roo, I was off to the races and never looked back. THANK YOU TATE for all the people you have helped through the years with your wonderful birds! If you ever get to a place where you need some replacement stock, DO NOT HESITATE to ask me for some starter birds! I MEAN it!

I dont think anyone knew he sold out. From what I heard he sold all his birds to The Ranch (on here) and moved into an apartment in Ohio. Jacqui told me he quit chickens for good. I was trying to get hold of him as I had heard he was working on MIlle FLuer in standard cochins but now its too late. Hopefully someone will be able to contact him

Sorry I haven't been much of a contributor to this thread in the past month. We had family from England for 3 weeks & trying to keep up with the harvest didn't leave me much time to do anything but read & check out all the awesome pics. I finally had the chance to get some pics yesterday of my flock & thought I would show you the progress I am making.

Renoir, newest member of my breeding flock. His color is very close to the color on Mille Fleur D'Uccle so I am hoping that he passes that on to his chicks.

. He doesn't have perfect type but I think his coloring & pattern make up for that flaw

Diego II, the 2nd new cockerel. I have babies due to hatch from him on the 21st. He has the sweetest disposition & I love his pattern

Santiago-proven breeder this Spring. I am eager to see him after his first molt

Fernando-The only roo I have that "doesn't" have the errant feather sticking out of his cushion

Sweet little F4 girl who isn't quite a year old. I think as she matures & molts, she will develop a lovely cushion

Great pattern on this girl. She has just started laying & I think as she matures she will have good type

This little girl has the correct pattern & perhaps will develop better type as she matures

A pic of one of my D'Uccle pullets to compare color & pattern.

I will resume hatching in Sept. I also hope to have hatching eggs available, in the fall, if all the girls don't decide to molt at the same time

Hello everyone,

I too am sorry I haven't posted in a while - my glaucoma has really truncated my internet time online.
We bought some more eggs from Lynn about 8 weeks ago - and this is what we got out of it. I incubated
them in our Brinsea and JUST when they started hatching I took one of the eggs and put it under our trusty
he Strawberry Alice (reference to a character in Clint Eastwood's UNFORGIVEN). Then we moved her and her
new "baby" into the house with 6 others that hatched in the bator. Two didn't make it (sob)... We have
these five gorgeous and happy campers.

You see everyone here is having Brunch. Most of our birds hatched on Fridays, so I make a great Birthday Brunch
for everyone on Fridays. This weeks was romaine lettuce, cous cous, scrambled eggs, grated carrots and sweet
Jersey corn cut uncooked fresh off the cob. The main part of the flock was elsewhere so Alice and her now 5 week
old babies got this plate to themselves for about 10 minutes.

And I thought I spoiled MY cochins!

What lucky ducks ... or chicks

Beautiful babies.

Lynne, thanks for the update. What a handsome collection you have there. Fernando is looking extremely handsome as well as Santiago.. you know he's my fave

Very pretty girls too. I noticed with your girls and with the pics of Mike&Nan's chicks, there is some partridgey something going on. I have to say that trait (whatever it is) is really turning out some beautiful mille pattern. I wonder if d'uccle go through that kind of teenage, partridgey phase?

Thanks so much for posting these pics. I have bookmarked them and will refer back to them for guidance in the future. Does anyone else have good pics of birds of good type and good pattern? Not necessarily in the same bird

You can just give me the post number. Thanks so much. I have 2 boys and 1 girl and 1 Partridge girl hatched from Mike Vogans eggs. And a bunch more of his eggs go into lockdown tonight.

FYI When I spoke with Tate - he said that partridge is literally impossible to breed out - just when you think you have it out of the line it will pop back up generations later - that's why he stopped using the partridge in the MF line a long time ago. (Same way as folks who used the d'uccle getting the muff and beard 8 years later lol!)
