Thank you Coopa Cabana! I am an admirer of the particolored birds and do like the Wyan personality. They're similar temperament to cochins but in a bigger bird. Your project will be producing that color down the road! Was sorry to have missed Katie while here

Hope her trip was good
Here's the mille flock recently by the garden

and 2 youngsters who will add great type . They are just darlings, lots of little chatter, loved to be snuggled

Got a new pic of one of my younger girls. She is gorgeous! Even has very nice chest markings. Picture is kind of dark as it was dusk and i was out locking everybody up. This is a sister to the rooster Mike got.

I have a VERY VERY typey mottled rooster. Should I cross her back to him to improve her type (which isn't bad, but can always be better), or cross her on a mille colored boy that is less typey?

Nella, she is beautiful! Do you have any pics of her when she was younger and getting her first feathers? I am working on a mille project for another breed and have been following this thread with much interest. I love her coloring and trying to find progression pics to compare notes.

Welcome to our little MFC thread! Chick down colors on the MFC's have yet to be stabilized - a lot depends on whether the birds are eWh or eb based.

Erin (Msbear) has a great MF Progression page showing pics from various breeders:

and I have progression pics on my MFC page:

You'll have to keep us posted on your project, too!

Thanks Coopa, I have been checking those pics out as well. They are terrific. I'm somewhat familiar with mille fleur, as I used to raise pyncheons and they hatched all different down colors. However, they're juvie pattern was close to mille and easy to tell how they would turn out. I'm finding with the projects, the juvie color is not as helpful. I supppose this is because we weren't fully there yet, but I have 50+ next generation growing out and was curious to see if any particular pattern in their juvie plumage would tell me I'm close. I was planning to grow them out, just to be sure but it would be great to know if we're going in the right direction sooner rather than later. I enjoy reading your thread and everyone's birds are coming along so nicely.

Hello, I am new to chickens, and I have two young black cochins. I believe they are bantams rather than standard. I will post a pic of my roo, hes quite handsome! (well, i think so)
I skimmed through this thread, very pretty birds! What is a mille cochin? is that the color name? I'd like to hatch some from my pair at some point, and it would be fun to get a few different colored hens or roos and mix it up a bit and get some cool colors!
not the best picture, but here he is:
