Here's the only one I could get loaded this morning. Stupid uploader keeps telling me my pics are the wrong format! (They're jpegs, just like this one)
I did add a couple older ones to the BYC page, though.

Would you be willing to sell some eggs later down the road?? If so, can you please keep me in mind.

Ha ha... if you mean ME, I haven't a beginner's clue what I'm doing. These are my first chickens! You could likely get some from fattie. She sold me my birds. (Do I get commission???)

Yep, I definitely ment you. Do you have any hens to go along with that stunning rooster you posted? If so, I would really like some eggs. Just wrap them up, stick a stamp on them, and send them my way LOL. Or you can just box up that lovely roo and send him to me. I'm not picky LOL!!

There's an interesting article in latest Poultry Press regaring purity of blood & uniformity by Kenny Troiano. He's referencing gamebirds though speaks of isolating genes, inbreeding, & outcrossing. The takeaway I found in this article were a couple things:
"Beginning with a few good members of a breed, the potential variation of offspring goes down"-- Unfortunately, this is what happens to species nearing extinction----but for poultry breeding I see it as a tool to "fix" characteristics. A tool to a certain point.....A white cochin breeder mentioned her birds were 4th or 5th generation of parent/offspring inbreeding and beginning to show fertility issues. Bearing in mind, characteristics desirable & undesirable will show up.
"Reducing brood fowl every 5 or so years"--Reducing the brood adults to a few good representatives follows the same thought above. What came to mind is the cattle industry! The use of Artifical Insemination where every cow in a herd may be bred by one bull. This bull may have awesome daughters with great milking ability. Another concept from cattle is the use of flushing embryos from a highly desirable cow and putting those embryos into other cows to raise the calf. The rodeo stock industry uses this method. Granted....poultry people are not flushing embryos or AIing to the extent of the cattle industry!!! I enjoyed reading the article, certainly gave me something to think about.

LOL! I do have a couple pretty little ladies out there with him, but they are just babies this year, so maybe in the spring... I have a Mille hen I am pretty happy with, so I will be excited to see what they produce. I'll keep you in mind when I need to send out some "test eggs". I am worried I'm going to have difficulty hatching out enough (my husband already thinks we have too many

) to see what they can do!
As for the roo... he's not going anywhere!

Oh thank you. Yes, please do keep me in mind if you want someone to hatch some testers for you. I have a Sportsman incubator with a very good hatch rate. I would be more than happy to send you lots of pictures so you can see how the chicks are maturing. Just let me know if you have any extras available in the spring.
