Mille Cochin Info

ok, first of all.. Warden... WHAT AWESEOME CHICK PICS. I am really impressed. ..been getting into photography and can tell you put some effort in there. Kudos and gorgeous babies.

Lynne, how is your buff barred project going? I'd love to see some updates.

Tallyho, I think you got super lucky with those babies. They are so close to mille d'uccle. I think their color is the best I've seen. I CANNOT WAIT to see them mature. Baby #9 is the only one I don't think will pan out well and that's saying a LOT since the true mille color has been such a stab in the dark for all of us. Congrats! And, congrats to Lynn for all of the hard work and laying in bed at night indecisive of which roo with which hen .. hahahaahah I know you do!!!

That partridgey juvie color is spot on

I know some enjoy using the wheaten based looking birds but it does create a different look and you don't get the vibrant "orange vermillion" as called for in the color standard

Here is a great thread on "the coop" with Sigi (gal who wrote Chicken Colours.. I believe) and is incredibly knowledgable of genetics.

Enjoy

Good thing chicks come out looking like the cute fluffies of The Warden's babies. Hard to believe that cuteness becomes the messy looking things I have right now!

Yes, seems that 4th week is critical. I'll be studying them very carefully this week! I can go with 6 and 6.

And if y'all don't mind I'll post more baby pics next week. But I'd rather see day old babies!

I have my Mille Fleur page back up now but you all have probably seen my photos on there or here already. I meant to add more recent baby photos but I was wore out from working with it all day and my hand hurt like the blazes.

I just keep chugging away at trying to get all the pages reconstructed.

Erin,

Thank you for the great thread from "The Coop". I'm still genetically challenged but I was able to glean some good info from their discussion. I so agree that the "chipmunk" looking chicks do color up better than the blond ones as long as they don't start out with excess black.

Emily (BC hen) crossed with Santiago & Rojo has given me some very interesting chicks this Fall. ( Remember Emily & Hannah were my foundation BC hens for my MF project over 3 yrs ago. Originally I bred them to Cassanova my foundation MF roo. ) These new chicks, produced in the cross with their 4th generation grandsons, are not only better colorwise, but the type looks very good so far.

As far as my Buff Barred project, I do have 3 little pullets that are coming along nicely. I'll send you some pics as soon as this nasty weather leaves. I'm already ready for Summer~!

what do you experts think of him

I told you all I would post photos of what my girls produced with Mike's roo, Bantyman. I was given this roo by a friend who got eggs from Mike. I put a few girls in with him and here is the result. I have a few others but nothing in pics yet and I love this coloring. I know it will change a lot but it just reminds me of one of my barn cats.

And here is one from Wizard with one of my MF ladies.
