draye I believe Tate (Ralph) was starting a large fowl mille but alas he quit chickens and moved to the city. He sold his birds to The Ranch here in Florida I dont know if she is still trying to produce the variety or not. You might contact her

I'm in for the genetic manipulation game! Although Gail said,"As far as LF go... the big problem is finding the ingredients to make MF in LF... For instance, buff columbian does not exist in LF.... (I don't believe). The ingredients for mf are all or some of these varieties; wheaten, buff columbian, mottled, buff. Since, there is no BC, your best bet would be to breed buff with mottled then add either wheaten or partridge .. .not sure what your result would be but... there ya go. "

This got me thinking that I actually have an EE who is buff columbian, so if I cross her to a Splash Marans, then the F1 Roo back to the LF Blue Cochin, I might get close? (Feathered shank Marans + booted cochins make???) Genetics are so interesting! Or, a Wheaton Ameraucana x Blue Splash Marans =F1 x LF Cochin Or Wheaton AM x Speckled Sussex = F1 x LF Cochin?

Which of these might come closest?

I think the buff brahma would be your best choice since they are very close to the cochin in type

About creating LF~~I've heard other folks in other breeds breeding *down* to bantam by using the smallest LF birds for several generations, simply "down-sizing"...I've mentioned this before, but I believe the quickest way may be to simply "breed up" to LF.

We just looked at our little girls feet and they are green. I will get her pick tonight or this weekend for her 3 week shot.

I read, I believe it was on the Cochin International forum, that breeding hens with green feet was not nearly as bad as breeding the boys with it. The boys seem to pass it on whereas the girls do not. So far I have bred the girls that had it and their kids did not. I never bred the boys that had it. I started to but then found I had other roos that were better to use so I was able to avoid that.
Mine came from when I first crossed MF/buff Columbian to Mottleds.

Anybody noticed anything with theirs and the breeding?

If I wanted to try LF MFC, (which I do not, lol) I would just go with buff LF cochins. Everything else you need (and more, lol) is already in the bantam MFC.
