Mille Cochin Info

They are already too old at 10 days to feather-sex. They need to be 2 - 4 days old. There are differing opinions as to whether you can feather-sex Cochins, as they are a "slow-feathering" breed.

If you try again on your next hatch when they are younger, BE VERY CAREFUL handling wings that young - you can do permanent damage to the wing structure.

it still works for me at that age you just need to compare them to the other birds of the same age

I don't go by wings but I can tell you that the first one is a girl. See the line coming from under her eye? Girl.

Look at Tallyho's first pic. See the line from the center of the eye? Boy.

Oh yeah....cute babies and birds everyone! What great things are getting accomplished in the MFC world. Big and small birds!

The other 4 don't have lines at all. They sure are growing fast. I need to take more pics. They are getting feet feathers and their wing colors are very unique on each.
I hope I get a few calicos.

It was the wattles and comb at 3 weeks that clued us in. I couldn't tell by feather growth. But in my case the darkest/black babies were boys and the very yellow one turned out to be a girl. However there were chipmunky-types that weren't light or black.

They are 3 weeks old today. I'm watching the combs and wattles close.
