Mille Cochin Info

I have a lot better birds on the place, imo, some mature and some still growing.
I suppose I am a bit selfish and don't show those off. I want to wait until what I think is the perfect MF Cochin and then I will post them on my web site but for now I am holding back the best ones. Maybe because I could be wrong and maybe because I can't take any criticism of what I feel are proving to be excellent creatures. I am trying to perfect them but at the same time breeding for what I like and want.
I have sold out of a lot of breeds and varieties to continue to focus on my lovely Cochins. I need to update my web pages again. I no longer own any Golden Cuckoo Marans. I just shipped out the last rooster to IL.
I did up date a few pages recently but still have so much work ahead of me and so little time each day to spend on the computer.

Thank you for your comments on the birds. I am always looking for opinions, especially when you all agree with me!

I swear I won;t post photos of birds I do not want comments on. Like I said, those won't get posted until they are perfect in my eyes. My iffy ones can always use other opinions.

is anyone interested in working on blue mille fleur? i have blue buff columbians and possibly a blue mille (still a youngster and waiting on final color) pm me if you are serious about introducing the blue gene. their type is not the greatest but this would be the only way to get the blue in there

Wow, Amy....I probably would have held onto either of these birds!! Your flock quality is very good if they are your culls. The roo seems a good step for mfcs, he has some rounding in his rump & chest (he sure has a nicely shaped comb). The pullet presents herself better in the first pic, she shows a little length in the 2nd pic. As young as she is, she may develop more....
But boyo! the color on each is great!

But color is not my priority at the moment. I just wanted to post a few photos to show how the color and pattern is developing without me even trying to breed for it. I don't select my birds for anything except type and know I still have a long way to go to get the type to continue generation after generation. The genetics are in place for color and pattern with maybe a bit of tweaking later on. It will come together as you can see from the photos, it is already progressing. That is why I preach type, type, type.

Hatching out over 100 chicks this year has yielded a lot of prospects. Some are still hanging around the back paddock waiting to know their fate while others have been moved to the Silkie/Cochin shed for closer observation. And still some are growing up in brooders but not many as I am wore out from cleaning up after chicks and have very limited eggs still in the bator.

I am waiting to see what Tristan's group will give me in color so I can sell them to folks that just "have to have" that color and pattern. That was a great breeding pen for color but there probably won't be anything typy enough to breed for the perfect MFC. But then again, we shall see. Sometimes the darnest things pop out of a breeding pen! As anyone who breeds their best to their best and gets just average totally understands. Kinda like throwing the dice.....

Anxiously awaiting more photos of everyone's beauties! You all inspire me and give me goals to work towards.

I just got these pics on the computer. This is a 6 month old I got from hatched eggs from Lynne.

She doesnt have a name but isspecial. What a sweetheart. There was an egg explosion under mama hen and for the last 2 days there was a small hole in the pointy end of the egg. I brought the egg inside and put in the incubator and she did hatch. Although a bit dry as you can see.
