Mille Cochin Info

I tried that....it would only take the most recent pic uploaded (clicking the picture icon?)

VERY cute babies!!

I don't know. I have uploaded and retrieved the URL through the "Insert Image" option and I have been able to post multiple pics both ways. Maybe someone else is better at explaining than me. I don't know. Sorry!

Awesome babies!
Cadeau, sent you a PM about uploading photos and such.

Your kids are not likely to be the same color when so many of us are still working on pattern. It will eventually be like your first chicks and all hatch out the same color but those genes are still kinda a mixed bowl of goodies and not cemented in place.
When I look in my hatcher I can usually tell what chicks are out of what roos without even looking at the egg names just by the color of the chicks but sometimes I get fooled so I do not rely on me knowing exactly what they will look like.

Your little pullet looks long right now but those are your better egg layers so I would not discount that she will be a good breeder for your program. As she matures she will show you more of what she is made of and your new roo may help balance out her offspring. It is certainly worth keeping her to see what she will mature like though. You know what I think about type or should by now. LOL
What a sweet girl to cuddle the babies! I love the nurturing aspect of the Cochins!

You are getting so much more to work with that you will be able to narrow it down to the best later on. Or get as bad as me and have your top breeders, runners up and third string team hanging out. This is why I have 7 pens in breeding now and working on putting together a number 8. And then I have all those kids growing up. Oy! I am a sucker for punishment! But I love my bantam Cochins and though I have other pursuits, I will not give up my favorites. This is why Fred, my MFC foundation roo is still here along with Xavier, his son and Schmoozle and so on and so on!

Just watch everyone grow up and when you see something you can't work with, sell it. Or if you have more than you need of something, you can sell that. But when do any of us have more great hens than what we need? That is why I have a 3rd string of girls. If I lose my great ones then I have the runners up but what if something happened to a few of those? Hence, 3rd string. Not as great as some of my ladies but still not overly bad and workable with certain roos. And 3rd string always lay a ton of eggs.

I have a few photos of some of mine I need to get on here and post but time is short for me these days.
Everyone keep your photos coming. I love to see what all everyone is working with!

I love that 2nd roo, Amy!

You are killing me with your egg auctions... You always post them on my worst weeks.

ok i'm curious about the genetics of mille fleur. what mutations are involved in it?

I didn't have any luck with this last hatch, but have some mottled eggs on the way, and i'm wondering if you breed a mf to a solid (red) or mottled (black & white) what would you likely get?

i'm not giving up on the mille fleur, but had a bit of a setback since i only have 1 cockerel right now. while i do have some older pullets that would be ready to go when he is...

my blacks are split lavender so they're not going to be available at all.
