Bluff I may just have to get some eggs from you in the spring.

Lynne yours are looking more and more correct. Great job! I'm very pleased with my little 6 MFC.

I am strange though. I personally like the 'uncorrect' colored ones. Like cloud better than the brown Mille Fleur looking ones.

I am really interested in Mille Fleur Cochins, but would like to use the birds I already have instead in bring in yet more birds.

I have Black Cochin bantams - 1 rooster, 2 hens. And Mille Fleur d'Uccles - 1 rooster, 1 hen.
Can this be considered a start for my Mille Fluer Cochin breeding program?
Any pointers?

To add to what Lynne said, quite apart from the difficulties of breeding for type from D'Uccles, black wouldn't be the best choice of colour with which to start a mille fleur project.

The other advantage to using started birds/eggs or starting with the Columbian cochin/mottled cochin cross is that you have pure-bred cochins. As a customer, wanting to get mille fleur cochins, that would mean a lot to me...

I thought I would share a few photos of my starter trios and the chicks that came with the MF/buffs. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me with only these to work with but I think that will be the joy of the project. I will follow you guys that know more than I do and ask your advice and view your photos to see what I should be working towards.

Wow... 39 pages!

I'd better get to reading... my name is Kae, I'm new to all this project bird stuff but please don't hold that against me, I do learn quickly. I'm purchasing two pullets and a cockerel (all MFC) from TimK this coming Saturday. I figured the best way into the pool was the deep end

Welcome

Just think... this time two years ago there may have been a handful of mfc breeders out there... now, with the two byc mille threads and a yahoo group and such, that number has multiplied in a way that is blowing my mind. Every day I log on here and find yet another person who is anxious to get started. This excitement could've never reached such a wide variety of folks from all parts of the country. I understand that many may lose interest. But, if just a small percentage of us remain excited about this and make progress with type and color, we REALLY COULD GET THIS VARIETY RECOGNIZED!!! It takes lots of breeders and lots of birds to start a club and begin the process... so this is where it's all starting, folks
