Mille Cochin Info

Thank you, Nancy. I do love nice foot feathers but mine usually wear them off out in the pens. The ones that came in from Bantyman had awesome feathering and then I put them in a tractor during the day and slowly the foot feathers are looking worse. Oh well, I know they are there.

Can't wait to see more photos of everyone's birds. I do not take pretty pictures like everyone else does. I have never figured out that field of depth thing and do not set my camera up correctly but what I take is not too bad and you can see the birds okay.

It worked Nancy. Thanks. I'll get pic s of all mille's today and update the progress page on Rem's chicks.

When Gracie was born I bought a nicer camera (and have upgraded twice since) so, if my pictures turn out nice, it's all because of the expensive camera. But I don't care about the quality of the photos, I'm much more interested in the quality of the birds in the photos!

FancyFeathers, well said! But....what kind of camera and lense DO you use? : )

Country boy, please ask for a backup battery for your birthday, and KEEP those pics coming.

So....our Mille Fleurs did not place at the show. : (. These birds belong to my son, he was SOOO upset. BUT... Silly me, the birds we brought are only 2 months and 3 months old, not nearly filled out enough to be shown, and the judge commented on the card that they were not the right color, well...we are not there yet. We didn't DQ and that was my personal goal.

This was our first show ever, we learned a lot and met a lot of nice folks!

Also, got BV and BB with our Black Orpington cockerel! So Yay!

I use a Canon T2i with a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens
I just upgraded for my daughter's birthday.. my old DSLR was an old camera. Still have a lot to learn about this new (to me) camera, but so far I like it a lot. All of my photos are SOOC, I don't even have photoshop, so a lens has to perform fairly well for me to be happy :)

Sorry your MFs didn't place, showing is a learning experience - everytime, I think!
Great job on the Orpington!

Quick MF update....

Not much new going on, but one of my buff columbian-ish (Byron x Bridgette) daughters has that gorgeous cushion like daddy! The oldest one is not filling out, so I will put her with someone who does (maybe daddy or Beakman..?). My other calico Byron x Bridgette cockerel is coming in with a lot of color. I need to get new pics of him so you can see how they have progressed. Junior has more red, but the girls are ripping out his beautiful cushion! My other dark girl from Amy's eggs is officially black. No red leakage, no mottling, nothing. So, I think she will end up in the chocolate project pen... Just because I can and I want to.

I have about 12 eggs set from Byron, Bridgette, Mildred and Millie's pen. They are due to hatch next weekend. I can not wait to see what I get from them! Mildred is turning 2 this February already, and she has really turned white this molt. So, I hope her and Byron give me some good babies, even if I know I won't have any breast flowers on their babies.

I have my basic pen bottoms done on my breeding pens. I havent' had help to attach the top to the wall. Once that is on, I can continue to work on it on my own. I can't do anything else without it, though. Dewey's been working 7 days a week and 5-6 are 12hr days. He comes home and pretty much heads straight to bed. Everything is getting neglected. We need to cut firewood and we can't even get that done. Usually this time of the year he's lucky to get 40hrs a week. New owners = new system = no time for anything. Anyone wanna come help me? I'll pay you in fertile MFC eggs.

Same thing happening here! These hours Brian is putting in are killer.. I am thankful that he has such a good job and I sure don't scoff at his paycheck lately.. AND I'm very grateful that he works so hard so I can stay home... but I do my share of wishing he wasn't gone so much, and so tired when he is home.
You're farther along then I am, though.. I have my breeding pens "planned"; I know how I want them and where I want them.. and that's as far as it's gotten. I need to finish winterizing my barn before I start building pens, and I'm doing it all myself so it's taking forever. How 'bout I make a trip to PA and you then you can come to SD?

I need to do some serious winterizing of my tractors, too but with this gorgeous 70 degree sunny, blue skies days, I just can't seem to get motivated to put up plastic and canvas.
Oh well, I am off to work on the peafowl pens though. LOL
