Took a few Halloween pics:
Kiko & Tiger--I believe they are mother/daughter, such similar red & black in neck

Decided to keep this guy as he grows more buff and color in his neck, saddle & tail.
A single little Halloween hatchling from yesterday--Pumpkin is all tuckered out; from Patty's eggs. Has squirrel stripes and black dots over buff fluff

Am letting these 2 go as a pair if anyone is interested -- Buff pullet & very white cockerel (he may grow to be much like Pale Male)

I took a few pics of my mille boy out in the yard today. All I can say is Thank you, Lynne

Everytime anyone comes to my home, chicken lover or not, they are mezmorized by his striking appearance.

And Lynne was just saying (on the Yahoo MFC Group List) that she's been struggling with her boys having TOO MUCH BLACK!!! ;-)

Gorgeous type on that guy...

I'd like to put him with my Candy Corn Cochins!

Lynne knows I wasn't always so thrilled with him. He's a gorgeous color but lacked type like all mfc boys do at this point in the project.. But, he's really matured into a handsome boy. Personally, I don't think he has enough black. It's being restricted on his chest and saddle feathers but I have some gorgeous pullets from Lynne that I plan to put him with. Their background color is a bit off but they have a great pattern... maybe a bit too much black so

let's see what happens

I have much faith!

I'll have two pens of these guys going next year and am thrilled to really start with my program in the Spring... It's going to be a long winter.

Haha MSbear it seems I have the opposite problem. All my roos from Lynne have too much black. Too bad they couldn't share and even it out.

Oh well. I love them all anyway, and I plan on hatching some chicks, and using them for a few things. Right now I have no big plans it really get into them.

I'm focusing on Silkies.

But I will still have plenty of room for them. I just won't be buying anymore lines right now. Of course, I might change my mind once they feather out.

The thing with these guys is you really have to hatch a bunch to get anywhere. I'll get on it) Scroll down to Cruzin T's project and you'll see some cockerels hatched from Lynne's eggs. A couple of them could be the twin brother to mine. And, a bunch of them are dark. You keep the good ones, then send the rest packing. But, some of the dark ones with a good pattern might be worth hanging onto in order to help evenly distribute black in the future. This is probably the toughest variety to work on and many of us are beginners here (including myself) so this isn't going to be easy.

I've just begun reading this thread. I'm only on page 4. It caught my attention because I used to have a mille fleur roo that I rescued from my neighbor's yard after they got rid of all their chickens. This little guy couldn't be caught and she told me I could have him if I caught him. Long story short, I caught him and owned him for 6 years. He ran with my standard breeds and taught all my roos how to be gentlemen. (I've just switched from standard cochins, red stars & black stars to orpingtons & australorps; breeding mostly for egg production.) I LOVED that mille fleur roo! Sadly, a hawk caught him one day.

ANYWAY, I really miss him and have been looking for a new one. Friends told me they would give me a pair of BB's this spring. The question is, what is a BB? (they didn't really know either as the ones they had were given to them.) I realize that it is a banty and I'm thinking they don't have the feathered feet like the mille fleurs. But if I could find out what "BB" stood for, I could research them and see if I want them.

I can see why you guys are into breeding these lovely birds which leads to my next question: What do you do with all the birds that you decide not to keep? I'm afraid I couldn't part with any if I got started

These are mille fleur cochins ... not d'uccles (what you probably had) It's a common misconception. Mille fleur has to do with the color/pattern/variety. And cochin is the breed of chicken.

As for me, I sell culls from my home, at shows or on here.
