Mille Cochin Info

Speaking of artistry - been meaning to ask you - did you do the eggs in your avatar? Seems to me I remember hearing that they are decorated that way traditionally in the Ukraine, or was it Poland? Very beautiful!

The art form is originally Ukrainian, yes. Pasanke is much like batik, using a wax stylus and multiple, successive dye baths.
My mother taught me as a child (no, she isn't from the "Old World" but she was an artist/teacher), and it is something I dearly love to do! I did not "paint" these in the photo, however.

I made a new album on my website for my Mille Cochins. Take a look a see what you think of them. The pictures aren't the greatest but it will give you an idea. I'll have to take better ones..The new lighter one I just acquired from tate(Ralph) is on there as well.

So I am still pretty new to the breeding of chickens and the genetics and such. I really love the Mille Fleur pattern and would so much love to have some Mille Fleur Cochins. I currently have a couple of white cochins, a black cochin, couple buff cochin, and some frizzle cochins of different colors. I also have a few Mille Fleur D'Uccles and porcelain D'Uccles. So what would be my best to start my own strain of Mille Fleur Cochins? Would I just take a Mille Fleur D'Uccle and cross it to my White Cochin or the buff Cochin? What would these crosses create? I know it would take some time to probably get ones that are displayed in this thread, but any help will be great!

The ingredients for mille fleur cochin is wheaten, columbian and mottled. We kill two birds by using buff columbian which also gives us our background color (wheaten) You could also use partridge, or brown red, I believe for background color. But, definitely use all cochin. Crossing in d'uccle will lead to many years of frustration trying to breed out the d'uccle type.

I suggest buy some eggs from someone on this thread or even buying a cull roo and keeping your eyes open for two nice pullets. Good Luck!

Hey Vickie! Your birds are gorgeous!! You have to let me know when they start laying so I can get some eggs/chicks from you to add to my project. Too bad you can't make it to the November swap. What about the December one?

Here are my two babies that I hatched from onthespot! I think that I got lucky and got a pair.

What do you all think about their coloring?

Thanks,
