I hear about people complaining they're not getting breast flowers on roos...

but kepiru has them, doesn't he?

I've sold/culled more roos very much like him that I wished would go to good breeder homes, that usually end up as someone's dinner more often than not. I just can't keep that many roos.

He is close to having them. He has black on his chest but not really the chevrons. It will eventually "bloom" out, no problem.
Don't worry about your color and pattern so much. Get that type in there and since the ingredients for color are already there then it will eventually come out. I see the same mistake so much from people working on this variety. The most important part is the conformation on the bird.

I like the term "chevrons" better then "breast flowers", because it more accurately describes what we're after, in my opinion.
Ideally the feather should have color, a black band, and a white tip.
Love my Ned's chevron's:

all of a sudden I'm having problems uploading pictures..... ?

And yes I'd like him to have more, but, he is a young cockerel and is still changing. I'm excited to see him when he's mature :)

But I do think birds like your Kepiru and my Rudy:
will help us get there. My plan, anyway, is to put Rudy with my Bran daughters who have very little black, and none on their breast. Tune in next year to see my results!

Sorry to be as thick as two short planks. Still trying to get my head round the genetics. So what would I most likely get if I breed these two girls

sorry, I am new here what are the two hens? What are they carrying I mean? Your second hen looks like she is from a mottled buff columbian, or a mottled buff, is that correct?

And the first? From my understanding mille is created from a base of buff columbian and mottled on a e^b base. I have seen some lovely birds from a wheaten base though.

Here we don't have porcelain, can someone explain the genotype?

browsing on a mobile so cant track back too far. If you have answered this already I apologise:) btw like the name, do you have any connection to South Africa?

Doesn't matter to me what we call it right now. I know what everyone means.
Chevrons is only the black, whereas breast flowers means the entire feather with the correct coloring and placement. To me anyhow, that is how I interpret it.
