Mille Cochin Info

It has been a very long time since I have been able to visit this page and I can't tell you how much I have missed seeing all the amazing photos that all of you share. I purchased all of my mfs from Lynne and had a really nice breeding program until a neighbors dog dug into my coop and killed everything. I had been working on blue mfs but it had taken me years to get anything that looked decent. I was able to get two of my hens back that I had sold as chicks and I still have my two strange buffish colored hens that I posted pics of years ago. I really want to build back up and give it another shot but I'm having a hard time motivating myself. I have a 14 month old daughter so I don't have the chicken budget I once had. I have been out of it so long I don't even know how much eggs/chicks/young birds are even running these days. Is anyone else out there breeding blue mfs?? If so, how much are they going for? I came here hoping for a boost to give me the courage to try my luck one more time.

Ack!

It is a cockerel! I looked!
Well surprise surprise this morning I had a phone call from the guy who bred HIM saying that since the other two cockerals had gone he had attempted a crow! So I am off to pick him up tonight, I will take some photos and do a picture show later when I get him home. I was thinking of calling him Wiz! Excited!

Sorry to hear about the dog. I do have them. probably a little over half of my mfc chicks are blues. my pen is 'resting' right now, aka free ranging, since several of the hens are broody, but I'll be setting them back up soon. I have one pullet right now that is available, but I can't ship, sorry... if you're interested, you can see pics on my profile page (my websites being rebuilt).

good luck starting back up.

i just got back from a few days away. My white MF Cochin girl can hardly stand up. I saw no obvious injuries, separated her from her pen, dusted her with DE and have been pushing fluids. My daughter was hand feeding her. I'm surprised she ate. She was incredibly light.

I sure hope she makes it through the night.

It must be so disheartening for this to happen, spending ages on building up your own line and then for that to happen. I hope you gave your neighbours a piece of your mind! I think you should start back up again, especially since you still have some hens left over. Even if the colour isn't great you can use their type. I do have blue MFC but unfortunately I'm in the UK so wouldn't be much good for you! You can do it!!!

Can anyone tell me what kind of price range is reasonable now for eggs, chicks, young stock? Ki4got, how much are you asking for her and where are you located?

Sadly, our lil girl did not make it. She passed this afternoon. We had an Olive Egger housed in a different coop who had the same symptoms and passed this morning. I dropped the Olive Egger off at the State lab for necropsy at noon, at least I'll know what happened, and if it was something contagious. I'm heart broken over that lil white girl, (not really white, but predominantly white) she was one of Nancy's line.
