Mille Cochin Info

You always want to work on making them look like basketballs. A nice round shape to the body. Sometimes in teh juvenile stage they look like crap but if they were nice as a youngster you can wait out the juvie ugly stage and at around a year old or so you will get that basketball look again. If they always have a long back then you can bet they always will and though I don;t mind some hens having a longer back, my cockerels must be round and typy. Hens can have length because that gives them a bit of room for egg storage and production but you have to have a nice typy fella to accent the offspring.

Thank you for your input! That makes sense. Once I got them home, and have really had a chance to look at them, I think they're a good combination of roundness with not too short necks. Not sure why the MF looks so "J" shaped in the pics in the car, but maybe she was just on high alert or something and her posture was a bit exaggerated. So.....I'm pretty happy with them especially after really looking closely at them compared to others people have shared. Would you call the lighter one "Calico" even with only two colors?

I have to say it has been a fat minute since I last posted ( Like 3 years or so!). I think my birds have come a ways since then. Are they perfect? Heck no but they are better. Sad to see this topic so empty these days. I have been working on hard on these guys. I am getting closer to where I want to be. I still have some issues but slowly they are being resolved. The cock bird in these is missing some feathers but it is what it is. I am simply looking at where I started vs where I am now. I am sincerely happy with where I am and look forward to the birds getting better with each hatch.

Phew, I've just read through the whole 815 pages of this thread, great work everyone. I'd like to start in MFC myself, tried some posted eggs but none hatched so i'll have to have to try again now we've hit spring here in Aus. I'd love to see how you guys are getting on now- did you ever get to the stage it was an accepted colour in the US?

I dont know about accepted, but they're sold from a site here in the U S., interesting that they will either come out MF or calico.. https://www.mypetchicken.com/catalo...hin-Bantams-Mille-Fleur-and-Calico-p1964.aspx

I’ve just read the whole thing too. I learned so much! As far as I know, this is still not breeding true anywhere. I wonder if perhaps Porcelain breeds true either? I would guess not. Neither are accepted varieties. Seems most really good breeders (near the end of the thread) have stopped breeding these chickens. I’ve hunted down Amy & Lynne on Facebook (neither come in here anymore I think) and Amy has stopped breeding them, while Lynne is not seen anywhere. She made a post in 2019, but that’s it. It’s a shame because her birds are the closest to correct MFs I’ve EVER seen anywhere. I wonder if she is still breeding them either. If there is a new MFC thread, can anyone perhaps link to it? I’m debating whether I should start one or not, but it doesn’t seem anyone truly breeds anymore. :hmm Pic of Lynne’s bird that I am referring to (I would quote, but that will be hard to find). 6426FD26-5661-4C68-ADF8-0F692BD1D380.jpeg
