Thanks, guys, for the supportive comments.

Gail, I am having a very hard time letting Picasso (and his pals) free-range...! I watch from the house and go out to count heads pretty often...and my husband laughs at me because he built a new little cochin coop for them and it has a big, south-facing window, so when they are put up for the night, I can go peak in on them then, too...which I do...hahaha...talk about hovering mama!

Rosemary, he's definitely beautiful. You know, I wish I had pics of these cockerels I have from Josh when they were a couple of months old. They had so much white, and now look at them. I wouldn't have thought. I guess we really need to hold on to these as long as we can, as much as they change over time.

Yeah Rosemary, your Picasso has markings exactly like Mille Fleur D'unccles! Speaking of changing colors, little Pumpkin here who hatched Halloween Eve

You know, I have one, my little "Booby Prize", who was chipmunky to begin with, then lots of *white* down, then black wing feathers appeared and now s/he has black coming in everywhere, likely just like your Pumpkin. What to make of that?

Well, hey, we could start a "Low White" MFC project...

Morning Paula! I'm just sitting with my morning coffee, making lists and checking them twice!!! Trying to figure out what I didn't buy yesterday!! And totally exhausted. But I'm terribly excited - I have a new MFC pullet being shipped in this week - I'm hoping she arrives Wednesday. I had all my quarantine cages put up for the winter - thought I was thru getting birds for the season - so I will be getting everything back out this weekend. So I'll be able to post her pics Wednesday night (hopefully). Maybe if the weather holds today, I'll get out and take pics of everyone else.

You sound quite busy. I've gotten no shopping done-waiting on Cyber Monday. Cannot stand the crowds. Lol. Hope your new bird makes it safely. No new ones for me, but Ive picked my first Millie eggs this week-3 so far. Not as exciting as getting new birds, but I'll take it. Have a great weekend!

Life has been a bit of a roller coaster ride here in the Bluff Country. I lost my very favorite chicken in the whole wide world (Candy) AND the eggs that she had been setting for 19 days on Tuesday. Apparently, a coon must have come right into my attached garage. Needless to say, I am devistated and haven't felt much like chatting.

On the good side ~ my very first MFC egg hatched ~ also on Tuesday. My Easter Egger hen has been brooding some of Candy, Rose and Blanche's eggs. It looks like this little chick will be the only one to hatch but at least I got one...

I am working on a "memorial album" for Candy and have started up a "Calico Cochin Project" Yahoo Group in her memory. I am posting daily updates on my blog to track the little MFC chick's growth and developement. I thought it would be nice to have daily photos and then weekly, and eventually monthly to capture the changes that take place as she grows and matures.

Plus, it keeps me from crying...

Nancy, I think "Hope" is a very befitting name for her. And she has lots of us Godparents that will be watching over her as she grows up! Can't wait to see how her MF color develops. When I had only one Columbian Cochin hatch for me last year (in the bator), as I couldn't put her out in the coop, I raised her on my sideboard in the kitchen. I named her Nike, because she truly was a winner for me! I got so used to having her in the house with me, I didn't realize how old she was until she gifted me with her first egg. I looked at my calendar and OMG!!! I really missed her when she moved to the big house - she was always so excited to come out and greet me when I came home every night! I brooded her in a little reptile cage I got at Petsmart, and when she was big enough to be out from under the heat lamp, I got her a cockatiel cage. It actually worked really well - and she just loved the perch!
