I want to go with pellets only but just have to find the right feeder. Right now I just have a total of 7 chickens but that will go up in the spring.

I know *you* know that, but there are a lot of folks on here that might not be aware of how much the color/white change during the 1st 5 or 6 months. I was away from home for 3 weeks last month and when I came home and went straight to check on my flock, I hardly recognized my cochin babies. Much of their white was just...gone...and black markings in places they'd not had it before.

Yes, they DO change colors! A lot!!!

Rosemary - That actually sounds like it may be good news! Many have said the opposite - that theirs are getting whiter. But it really all depends on exactly where the white disappeared from, and where the black showed up. Have their chevrons gotten better, or worse? And what about the breast markings? And how old are these that are going thru this change?

Mine are right around 5 mos old. Yes, both the white has lessened in both sexes and the chevons have gotten more profuse with the girls with time. One little cockerel that was not much of a "stand out" a month ago now has well-defined black breast markings.

Word to the wise...don't be too quick to assess your babies! You just cannot predict what the white, especially, will do.

picasso has the best shaped and best distributed chevrons I have seen so far on this thread. I have always culled everything with that base color. (sell, not kill) but maybe I should have let them at least get a couple moults under their belts. Live and learn. He looks like a DEFINITE positive addition to the program!

Oh dear! Another beautiful roo!
Everyone seems to have such beautiful project birds.

I just feel lucky that I got my Mottled roo in with my MF/buff hen (the other is sitting on eggs) and my Mottled hens in with my MF/buff roo. That was about as much excitement as I could take for one day! LOL

Actually, I found it exciting holding my new MF chicks and looking them all over for color. Some have a bit of black showing up in their wing feathers that are coming out but as many of you have noticed, they change.....A LOT!
