Mille Cochin Info

This little boy is a mystery. He has the color, hackles and saddle feathers of a boy but is very "hen" acting. He also has the shape and comb of a hen and has never crowed. I have 3 boys that are a full month younger and all crow non -stop. I like the volume in his cheast and I keeping him around for a while to see how his type evolves.

Love him/her~! Does look very "girlie". Definitely a "keeper" either way~!

I had a white bantam Cochin rooster that was like that. He never crowed, he never tried to breed the girls, he lived to be 4 years old and then just died one night. I figured he was a hermaphrodite. Other roos never bothered him to be aggressive or to try and breed either. He stayed within the flock and I watched him for years but he just puttered around like a chicken and seemed content.

Oh, and in answer to some other posts.....
yes, the horse was gelded a few years ago and that is when he became a problem. Was excellent up til then.
Thanks for the like on my avatar. One of my many new beauties. I just inherited about 10 pairs and trios of different varieties of peafowl.

Love the background, Nancy, as well as your always gorgeous birds!
Love everyone's birds! Just too exciting to me to see everyone's pens of beauties!

I have so much work here to do on rearranging some breeding pens and changing some breeders around, add new girls, take out some old girls....yadda yadda.....

The crowers - Here is a pic (not so good) of the brothers of my little red cockerel. My boys are predominately red but I want to see how the colors of these two develope. - Plus one may get better type than I have so far. sure do learn pacience with Mille Fleurs.

Their red brother again -

ok got a bunch of pics today. loving my new camera but i still need to learn it better, since there's still some fuzz on most of the pics.

my free range group of chicklets... 3 cockerels 7 pullets from my mille fleur pen, with a dorking pullet (colored project).

think this boy is staying... and his twin too (above left)
depends how they mature, but i like what i've seen so far.

and from my younger pen... (4 dorkings, 16 cochins - 10 from shipped eggs)
i only poosted a few of my own breeding
the skunklet - got a LOT more white than i was expecting.

another view of skunklet, with a partridge behind and another less-white mille fleur chick to the left.

these 2 girls are the only 2 i kept from last summer's breedings. the girl top/behind is a blue mille.

another view of the bottom girl.

Very cute chicks, Karen! and whenever you're done with that blue MF hen, you can send her over my way...
