Mille Cochin Info

So Max is gone...which is good because he is no longer drawing blood from me, AND his girls are now at the feeder always!, which confirms what I thought, he was only letting his favorite girl to the feed and none of the others. So sad...and a bit weird.

So the bad part is...I still need his genes, he had great color and nice type, I have collected every egg since he left, but when I fired up the incubator this morning....DH says, ' WHAT do you think you're doing!?...' So....as much as I need a Roo out of Max, it does not look like I'm going to get one. Boo.

I have 2 of his chicks that I am growing out, but both appear to be pullets. Who knew that could be a bad thing?

Would you want to add new blood? I know we are close and I could use new blood, too.

So it is going to take several generations but that's ok cause I love the way the splits look ;)

Quote: Thats good to hear that some of my old stuff is still around Hope they helped you out Granted my older stuff wasnt that good but thats been 8-10 years ago But the newer stuff was alot better especially after the introduction of the partridge and the mottled Hopefully I learned something from the bantams and can remember to use it on the LF

Thank You!, but I don't want to add new blood, just want to hang on to some of Nancy's genes, I can help you out if you need new blood. I haven't given up hatching yet, they are still in the bator :D

Thank You! People on this thread are so kind.

Inky was third generation, wasn't she, Amy? Most of Inky's offspring, when bred to Ruby Rod, were closer to Mille Fleur. Her daughter Piccolo: is f4, bred to Scotty: gave me 7 black chicks and 2 yellow. The black chicks include Joxer and his sisters and the yellow chicks are this pullet and Joker - the middle cockerel in this pic: (with Joxer and another sister.) I did another breeding with a pure Mottled hen and a Mille Fleur rooster and kept one pullet, she has no leakage at all, looks just Mottled. This is where wing (or leg) bands and good record keeping are important ;) Those are my observations anyway. I'd love to hear from other breeders too!
I think you hit the money with Joxer out of Piccolo and Scotty. But, look at everything you got out Inky as well from Ruby Rod and the others. They all seemed to have good breast flowers and then had the type to go with it. It seems like Dinner passed it right along to Ned and Ivan did to freaky as well. But, if you look at Tuba, I bet I could get away with showing her as w mottled. She has no leakage up to this point but her chicks seem to be looking good. Her 1 pullet has decent pattern for her age and the other is coming in rust brown. Then Eli is changing so much I still haven't got any idea of what he will look like.
