Mille Cochin Info

Here are some more pretty birds from Lynne. All but 2 have moved on to a new home that can actually breed them. No roos allowed in Portland. We had a nice hatch of 3 girls and 3 boys, plus an older MFC that was a bonus with some d'Uccle eggs. That was a nice surprise.

This is the older pullet (Henrietta) with her litter mate also from Lynne. It really shows off how on close the coloring is to the MF d'Uccle. They are best budddies. I'm pretty sure they were born May 1st making them 15 weeks old today.

Here's just Henrietta

Henrietta is in the back the other two were almost identical.

This is the third pullet. We kept her. I figured she had the least correct coloring so was safe to keep and not breed. Plus we can tell her apart from Henrietta.

I am so pleased not only that you found someone who would continue breeding but that you passed on my name to her. I'm sure she will have questions that I would be happy to answer.

I know the 3rd pullet doesn't look like she will have correct coloring but wait to see how she matures. Two of my favorites, Bridget & Ebony started with the same coloring. They are different but soooo special. I won't trade them for anything.

My amusing story is that I have a cockerel that has waaaay too much black. I think he knows that he will probably become soup. He is so friendly that he jumps on my lap when I'm in the pen...I've named him "Vegetable"!

Danny long time no talk. I'm so happy to see you have found this thread. I love the little cockerel in pic #2 & the pullet in #5. She may be light but I see great promise in her type.

Isn't this fun seeing everyone's babies? I can't wait every morning until I turn on the computer to see what might be on our new thread. It's like Christmas!!! Thanks Josh for feeding my need!

All I can say is WOW!! This color has come a long way!! These birds have good type and color!! I would love to see this color in the standard someday. Congratulations to all of you for working so hard on this difficult color, it's fantastic to see your enthusiasm. It's so great to see a group working twords the same goals, you don't always see that in new varieties. It's nice to see people share and help each other!

How lucky for you that you got a pair!! Some people will be jealous!!!

Your pullet is from my hen, Cappucino. I love her coloring. Wait until yours gets older. She will be a beauty. Thanks so much for sharing these great pics.

Thanks Josh for getting the thread going, its so enjoyable to see everyone's progress.

Here's a few hatched this summer (mostly boys)

Think i'll hold the solid black female from Windchyme for good body type plus she must have a mottling gene as her down had yellow in the breast. Also keep the one brown pullet who's just getting spots on her back & neck.
Some odd patterning came from my black mottled hen & MFC roo--their mottling is jagged on the feathers. And they are getting some light buff in the back feathers.

Am hoping the pale down chicks grow like this little lady

As much as I enjoy the cochins, I've wanted to try breeding a buff/splash silkie, so am pausing on the MFC breeding as soon as my silkie starts crowing and not holding back any MFC boys for the winter, including my breeding roo. If you are interested PM me.
Hope to talk to Josh about a pair of splash silkies this fall....
