Mille Cochin Info

I THINK number four is a girl but if you'd send her to my house, I could take a closer look and let you know for sure...

Oh I sure hope I have more than one girl... my first hatch I got one hen and 4 roos. My second hatch I got about 50-50 with 32 chicks from Trader Joe eggs...

This is my third hatch and I will be upset if I only get one hen. I can't keep roos :-(

slikchick--My guess is #3 &#4 are pullets but the rest...have a suspicion they're boys. If they are busy posturing to other chicks, probably are males. The pullets usually duck down. You take nice clear pics!
Here's how some of mine are developing. I tracked the solid yellow ones in these pics:

THey have grown to quite a variety. Upper right 2 are cockerels, very reddish. Far left is a pullet who's light buff with mottling, very little black.

Hi,

In my experience with feather coloring, Chicks One, Three & Four are Pullets & Two is a cockerel. I really would like to see a full body shot of # 5. The partridge looking pullet may surprise you. Don't rule her out. She needs time to mature. Pullet #3 is going to have a beautiful pattern with a smoky blue background. She may not be the "proper" color for this project but she is going to be a "looker"

I have a couple of those partridgey looking pullets from my "off hen" like mrschickendad and they are looking good. ...very similar to Lolita's. I will keep one to cross back to MF.

One of the best pullets I ever hatched came from your eggs, Lynne. She was "partridgey" looking so I culled her at 2 months old to a fella down the road, "Abluechipstock" here on BYC. Whenever he posts pics of her, I just want to cry. She transformed into such a gorgeous mille... lemme see if I can find his post...
