If you are wanting high quality birds, Rare Feathers Farm is wonderful! I have a golden laced cochin rooster from her that is just gorgeous, and so mellow and personable that even my chicken-hating husband loves him!

My rooster is a mille, and all but one hen is a cochin (the exception is a chocolate brown silkie). The cochin hens are black, splash, mille fleur, and buff, red, and black frizzle. I also have 3 milles in the brooder, they're about 6 weeks old (out of about 3 dozen shipped eggs, I have 3 chicks to show for it - #%*&#*%^&^ post office!). I also have 8 eggs that are due to hatch soon from my own pen, hopefully I'll get a few more milles out of that! (and of course I'll get some of those mottled cochin eggs from you once the weather cools!)

lynne--I am such a dork--the rooster's name is actually ALBERT (as in Einstein...) I musta not had enough coffee.. hahah.. they are still doing great. I love them, they are both so sweet. I can't wait for chicks from them...

What would happen if Albert were with my white frizzle cochin hen? Would that give more calico colorings? Or just mess everything up? I was wondering if that would throw in the frizzle gene maybe? just for fun..

Albert really has his eye on her.. it must be the curls... lol! as an aside--she is very SQ, nice type etc. She is one of my show chickens, and always places well....

Hey Jen,

Nothing ventured, nothing gained~! I sure would try a mating between fluffy butt & Albert

If you're looking for Calicos, this may be the ticket....frizzled calico cochins, now that's something I would love to see.

well alright then! the venture begins! I am moving some chickens around today, so I can put the cochins all together and Albert will be one happy fellow. Right now, they are all together in the main pen, and there's my little Serama boy who is actually top Roo, he doesn't let Albert get away with much around the ladies..

But they don't fight--which is what I love about Albert--it's all him not fighting. He just runs off--laughing I think. 'dang-almost had me some hen!'
I'll keep ya posted on the 'frizzle calico' project..

They look quite content in their new home. I miss all my pretty girls. All of a sudden I've got a LOT of boys!

I've got chicks hatching under three hens now and still more laying so am looking forward to another generation of MFCs and Calicos. I have several awesome Calico cockerels coming up that I may list for sale. I have "Ice" and "Cracker Jack" plus a couple other youngsters that I'm keeping but plenty more to share to get those Calico genetics out there! I'll probably keep the boys until Fall, when the weather is cooler for shipping. Several are already reserved. I like hanging onto them until they're a little older to see how they mature anyway...

He's still a baby so has lots of filling out to do but I am totally in LOVE with him!
