Mille Cochin Info

Okay, the weather was finally nice enough and the time was up for these two in quarantine--so I got some pics!

They are really sweet, super friendly and I'm excited to see what they'll produce this spring.

Both need some help on their type but I'm still pretty happy about them!

The rooster is just finishing up a molt...

That's a great pair you got, Heather!!! And of course I love the roo - I've got one of his siblings! So I named mine "Jackson" - that's the most creative I could get as he's the son of (Cracker) Jack! What did you name your pair?

Have a feeling I am going to become addicted to these guys. I may have to see if I can get eggs from you later. Those guys are pretty.

Fattie I am blaming you!! Your birds were so pretty you got me hooked. Lol

I need to take another picture because They have filled out alot more and Ginger has even more chevrons and is getting hard to tell apart from her sister at first glance.
They both have REALLY changed patterns.
From now on I plan to keep a picture diary of chicks from hatching. At this point I don't know if chick color can predict what a Mille Fleur will look like as an adult, at least not untill we get the project more standardized.

I was looking at that last photo of my Mille girls and think that they are so "scrawny" compared to the Black (and White) Bantam Cochins I saw at the APA National show in Shawnee Saturday. I am not disapointed in my Milles. I think they are not bad for my first ones. But wouldn't a Mille Fleur with the shape and fluff of a champion Black be a beautiful Bird!!!!!!!!
The only picture of a Cochin I took before my camera battery ran low - a nicely patterened Mottled -

Yup! That is what I am breeding for. I love the shape of my Mottleds but want the color of the Mille Fleur and some Calicos on there, too. So I am struggling to breed for shape.

It is so nice to see the color coming out on more and more of everyone's birds. I can't wait to get to that point! I think mine are pretty until I see the photos of everyone's and then realize I have a long way to go.

I've never done bantams or cochins, but I have 9 of Lynne's eggs in my bator. 4 are Mille Fleur and the rest are buff barred split to black and black barred split to buff. We'll see what I get on New Years Day!
