Mille Cochin Info

Hi,
I am wondering about two silkie chicks I have that have developed green feet and green beaks! What causes that, and can the other chicks catch it? Help! Thanks for any input.

Tango and I would like to thank everyone for the kind words of appreciation. She would come to the computer and thank you herself, but, alas, she's broody again (sitting on an empty nest - please don't tell her!)! With many thanx to Nancy, Tango is looking forward to doing the Tango with her 2 new beaus, Cracker Jack (CJ) and Jackson, in another month or so when it warms up a bit.

Following this thread, seeing everyone's beautiful MF's, as well as the new class of 2011 chicklets, is really getting me anxious to get started again this Spring. I'm seeing tons more red hackles and tri-colored chevrons on the roos, and the type on everyone's males and females just keeps getting better and better and better.

In the meantime, I just hope Tango represents everyone's beautiful MF's well this week, and introduces/entices more BYC friends to the wonderful world of Mille Fleur Cochins!

If not, why? I see lot of info on bantams on this thread, but am interested in LF...

As far as LF go... the big problem is finding the ingredients to make MF in LF... For instance, buff columbian does not exist in LF.... (I don't believe)

The ingredients for mf are all or some of these varieties; wheaten, buff columbian, mottled, buff

Since, there is no BC, your best bet would be to breed buff with mottled then add either wheaten or partridge .. .not sure what your result would be but... there ya go.

You may want to post this on the general forum for a more thorough explanation but, it is a genetic issue. When you breed a bird with green feet to a bird with green feet, you will get birds with green feet. If you breed a green to a non green, you will STILL get some green feet and apparently those darned green feet can spontaneously POP UP farther down the road even if you cull it out.... that's what I've heard anyway... Of course, this is my understanding of the gene. Good Luck and sorry about your Mr. Grinch toes

Here are my two cute little chicks that hatched out this saturday. I was worried they wouldn't hatch since I lost power but they did! Going strong
