Mille Cochin Info

Amy you have beautiful birds! I just ordered 2 dozen from Luckypickens and b from Swheat so I dont have any room for more right now. I will have to keep you in mind and watch the auction thread. I want to buy off there because I am trying to build my rating up. I have not had any ratings yet because I have not bought off the auction thread but directly from people I have gotten in conversations with.

I will keep you in mind. I know you have gotten some from Luckypickens too.

Uh, no, I have NOT gotten any from LuckyPickens. I ordered Mottled eggs, was sent Frizzles, out of 2 dz eggs only 3 hatched.
I am extremely selective about where my MF come from (I started basically from scratch and have added blood from Bantyman- Mike Vogan) and never ordered any of the MF eggs from her. She has, however, ordered from me.
Please understand, I am breeding for SQ birds in the MFC project, not just color.

That sounds great, Charlie! You have some really nice birds. Don;t fool yourself. You may not need a Mottled over your girls to bring in type. I love that it has helped mine a lot but so much pattern is lost for a while. Still and all, it can't hurt to keep that type going. I see so many that are really nice patterned but need major improvements in type. I think you know how to cull well as I see some awesome birds in your photos all the time!

A lot of mine laid all winter so I have been setting all winter. Those of you that have them just starting to lay are probably terribly excited to set and hatch. I can't wait to see your chicks this spring.

I have a new pen that I am excited to see what they produce, as well. I have an F4 roo over his grandmothers and great grandmothers. There is still a long way for me to go but this is a great work in progress. There are so many combinations that I want to try but you know these bantam Cochins. They sometimes prefer to sit around, gossip a bit and do each others hair and nails rather than lay us a ton of eggs!

Uh, I didn't say you bought MFC eggs from her. On her thread I noticed you bought eggs.... Sorry I didn't look to see what you bought just the you had bought eggs.

Didn't mean to get trouble started in an open forum...... I am not a trouble maker... Sorry

Please understand I dont want any trouble.

Yes, Amy's birds are super in color and type...have a trio--eggs hatching wed of next week! The other person's eggs mentioned, well, not expecting anything but color! Hatch wasn't great either.

Yours are looking great! You are going to have a wonderful new batch this year off of this breeding group. That is EGGciting!

Wow, how do you like these girl's type? Can't complain can you? What size do the eggs need to be? Should I not set the eggs from the young trio I got from you? Will some of the eggs you sent me be from these girls or similar? Can't wait!

I'm not sure I understand your questions. I don't think egg size matters, unless you mean "pullet eggs". The first tiny little eggs a young pullet lays probably won't hatch. What does your trio look like? Do you have pics?

Amy mentioned in a message above that she didn't set some of the first eggs from a pullet? I had a young trio from her that has just started laying. I wasn't sure if I should continue to set these eggs and when would they be 'big' enough to set? Didn't know you should wait on eggs...I had checked to see if these were fertile! And they are.
