Mille Cochin Info

This is "Hawk", I am using him with my girls while "The Tidy Bowl Man" recovers from mites. I had to give him a blood transfusion last night, they sucked him dry. He is doing much better now. Yay! My first chicken blood transfusion was a success!

Hawk is very pretty.

You gave a chicken a blood transfusion???!

I hate to hear this, Bantyman! I am thrilled to have some of your bloodline in some of my birds. That little roo added some great stuff to my girls that needed what he had. I hate now I had to part with him but there is only so much time for me to spend on breeding pens and brooders.

Hey Amy

I hate having to do this also but my job wont let me have the time to do what needs to be done I have maybe 2 hours a day to get around here and get a thing or two done Thats not enough time to do anything with the birds I might keep a pair or two...maybe But the main thing is I cant keep up with the breeding and pens and brooders and records in order to get what I want Takes more time than what I have Maybe I will get back into them later but for now they gotta go Now to get off my soap box and get to bed

But I will still be lurking around here keeping an eye on things I am glad my rooster helped you Hope he done a good job

Bantyman, I am sorry to hear the news. That would be a good group for someone and I think partridge is a helpful addition to spread out the black throughout the bird.
I took pics of some of the spring chicks. One roo on left looks just about right, we'll see his how type develops. The right roo is quite dark, with a deep red and definitely looks to have partridge somewhere in his background. The little pullet in back shows hysterical mottling (nearly white!) While the one in front is still too white at this age, I'll see what she does. All of these came from millexmille mating.

Beautiful bunch of birds!!!

I have 2 breeding pens of just MF to MF. The kids are growing up so lovely. I am getting some that appear to be calicos but in my short 2 1/2 year experience with this breeding program I know that they may appear calico but when mature they are MF. I have very few with partridge in their background since I started mine off with buff Columbian and Mottled. I have added very few birds to my program from outside sources but did get some partridge added that way. It has smutted up the feathers some but it is still a project so we are working to clear up the color on those feathers.

ok i've got a few chicks with questions about them...
the first is a calico/mille hatched from shipped eggs, and i don't even remember where it's from. LOL
ok, pullet or cockerel? hatched April 16. comments on type/color/whatever?
(her neck doesn't normally look that long, but she's trying to get back outside to her fbuddies)

next is a couple chicks hatched on May 16. couldn't get pics of both sides, but they're pretty symetrical.
the one on the left has some white coming in on the wing bends, the right one has a few white feathers on the belly so far.
i know not great angles for the combs, but opinions on anything? they're supposed to be mille fleur as well.

and last, 3 of the 4 chicks hatched from my own pen. the roo is a calico/mille (not as much white as the first one) and the hens are blue partridge split mille.
too young to guess sex, (#1 is a week older than the others) but i'm just trying to get an idea what color they might end up...

i'm a big girl and looking for honest opinions, so let me know what you think...

how old are these guys? trying to compare to my calico i posted above, and a splash cockerel that was sent to me with the 2 partridge/mille girls. i'm still not convinced it's a HE, not a SHE... LOL (hatched approx 3/21 i'll try to get a pic and post on the cochin thread...)
