RIP Bridget....

Those of you, who have been long time readers of this thread, know that my Bridget is the girl who started me on the road to having MF's. She was sweet, loving & the best Mom. She & her best guy, "Rocky" were inseparable for almost 5 years. They never had chicks together, but raised many families & were devoted parents.

Bridget had been "off" for the past month. Still eating & laying eggs, but just not herself. I attributed it to the heat of Summer & gave her extra vitamins & her daily scrambled egg. However, yesterday morning I found her dead in the nest box, after laying me her last egg.

We buried her near the entrance of Hacienda. She has left a hole in my heart. RIP my sweet girl......

I am so sorry, Lynne! I know it is hard to lose a beloved pet and cherished part of the family! My heart goes out to you as I know you are in pain passing her pen.

So sorry, Lynne

Oh Lynne, I am so sorry to hear about Bridget, and I know you are grieving. I told you often how beautiful I thought she was. And I'm sure Rocky is missing her terribly. The entrance to Hacienda is certainly the proper resting place for her - what a beautiful tribute. Her legacy continues across the country in so many flocks - thank you for sharing her with us these past years.

Well said, Gail. I remember seeing so many people comment on here about her. Every time Lynne posted that pic and new wave of MFC newcomers would go bananas :) I am so sorry for your loss but, glad you had so many years with her, Lynne. I have a wheaten rosecomb rooster that has been with me the longest. He's a free ranger now and just makes his own harem of layers and odds and ends that are out free ranging with him. He's my avatar and, in his hay day, was the hottest thing I have yet to get my hands on... He's now white in the face, his comb keeps growing like the nose of an old man and his tail never grew back out to it's full length.. but, he's still "En Fuego" the powerful and I know I will miss him when he's gone.

RIP Bridgette... think of how many offspring of her's are spread out across the USA ???

Here are a few of those partridge crosses... which coincidentally are probably related to Bridgette. I started with some eggs from Lynne and then bought some more birds from Lynne.. then some more:) I then out crossed to buff columbian and mottled.. and now to partridge. I read on a UK site about how, over there, MF is partridge or brown downed at hatch. These birds may not be as "clean" patterned as a wheaten based MF but, the pattern will be well distributed and the colors more vibrant. I am more just playing around with colors with these guys to see what happens. I love the color but, of course... may need to re-assess if we don't get some more chevrons.

Here are some shots of the girls in with some MFC and Mottleds.

The girl in the middle... and in the far right in the next pic

Here are two boys.

I'll definitely keep a boy and a couple pullets and put back to a well patterned MFC and see what happens. I lost the orange vermilion color in the cockerels when I went partridge. There is a tiny bit in the hackle of both of these boys.
