Mille Cochin Info

Awww! Katelyn, our babies share a birthday! Uh..hatch day! DS is panicking trying to finish a brooder before we have to leave for his hockey game. I am not looking forward to moving Momma, she is about as cuddly as a rattle snake. Took a chunk out of my arm about a month ago just for looking at her wrong. Left a scar too.

Rev, I'm in Unionville, near Kennett Square, PA.

Funky Feathers, what gorgeous babies!

Good luck - wear a poofy coat and gloves! Helps a lot!!

I am out crossing (for the second time) with mottled. My F1's again have very little leakage (if any at all) and I suspect next year they will throw (again) mottled birds with a tad more leakage when crossed to MF and then the next year be dark again with very few MF. Maybe your birds have some sort of magic gene in them or maybe mine are missing something LOL but, I would love to hear from others who were able to get MF two generations away from straight black mottled.

Tiki, keep us posted on those little guys. The second one back looks like it will feather in black but, the one in front looks good.
I was mistaken, turns out my hen Inky is an F2, instead of an F1 like I thought. so, that makes a big difference in what I believed the results were. There was no "magic gene"... just an extra generation I wasn't aware of!

I have put this roo up for sale. I like him a lot but I am trying to get lighter brighter colors and I have his sisters.

One of my ladies I have high hopes for in the fall breeding pens.

I hate selling the ones we like. He is very pretty though Amy. Is he the roo u posted pics of a while ago.

I just got my computor back and hopefully can get it set up tonight. Now i dont have to use a phone anymore. :)

Can't wait 2 see new pics everyone!!!!!!

He is one I posted before in my hand where he was all ticked off. He is a nice balanced roo with some good color and the day I posted him on my For Sale page on my website I sold him along with a hen that is sight unseen. LOL
Most of my birds do not stay here long once I post a photo. It is just so hard to figure out what I need to let go. I handle them all as much as possible except for a few young ladies but they have good temperaments.

I have 3 more MFC roos to sell but with so many inquiries I doubt they will be here long. I am hatching out every week so I always have possibles.
However, with Schmoozle being so nice, as well as Xavier they are staying in my breeding pens and I keep trying to find roos that are better than them to replace them. Either I am sentimental or I am breeding wrong. I haven't found too much to keep in the roo area. I do have KK this year but he looks so much like Xavier that I am not sure what his kids will be like.

Well, I would show photos but BYC is being a pain again. I am off to FB where I do not seem to have this kind of trouble. Geez!

Here is KK and his ladies. There are actually about 6 hens in this pen but I can't them to group together for a nice photo. Even this one is a bit blurred.

A better photo of two of his girls. I am setting every egg they lay. I need to stop but can't seem to do so. However, a friend stopped by yesterday and said my brooder room was the emptiest she has ever seen it so I am having some control on hatching.

ETA: KK is the full brother to Nancy's Ruby Rod.

I am still watching this boy for keeping. He has a lot of the right stuff but needs to mature so much more. I should know in another few months so for now he is staying.

He may have too much red but that is where all these beautiful MF/Mottled hens come into play. I can breed them to him and get type and better pattern. Getting those white tips on every feather, along with just the right chevron and the better color close to vermillion is going to start giving me headaches soon enough. Type almost is set though.
