Mille Cochin Info

Here is KK and his ladies. There are actually about 6 hens in this pen but I can't them to group together for a nice photo. Even this one is a bit blurred.

A better photo of two of his girls. I am setting every egg they lay. I need to stop but can't seem to do so. However, a friend stopped by yesterday and said my brooder room was the emptiest she has ever seen it so I am having some control on hatching.

ETA: KK is the full brother to Nancy's Ruby Rod.
Amy,

Everyone is looking "awesome"~! Love the type on KK & the hen in the 2nd pic on left. If I weren't choking on smoke from the 2 fires near us, I'd get some pics of mine as the eeiry light from the smoky sky would make a beautiful backdrop. I need to set up breeding pens but the heat & humidity just drain me. Guess I'll wait til Sept. & hopefully it will be cooler. This time last year I had a grow-out pen brimming with peeps but I forced myself to cut back this Summer. Keep those brooders full. We "need" some quality MFC. :)

Lynne -- stay safe! That is scarey...

My older MF chicks are growing up nicely, and I have 44 chicks (Cochins & Silkies) in the nursery coming along.
This is a Ruby Rod son I'm thinking of offering for sale, he may grow up to be a really handsome bird, but I've got to start making cuts somewhere?? He does remind me of a Golden Necked d-Uccle?

That's Cinnamon who I got from you, Lynne, on the right.

I actually have several pullets who look like this

I was thinking of letting 1 or 2 go with him..

Yes, Dinner is another favorite I can't part with

As is Prince, the cockerel behind him.

Hi all, I would like an honest appraisal of the conformation on my birds. Be brutal, I can take it. I know they are not all Mille, but the point of the Mottled was to cross in for more even white spotting. Most of the Mille I have been able to find are very "pied". Also the "mille pullet" has patterning on her feathers that I don't see in the D'Uccle. Thanks!
!

hi Helen, I had a judge look over our mottled/Mille Fleur boy yesterday and he told me that looking from the side, you want the silhouette to be two round circles next to each other, tail+body. Not sure if that helps or is even correct, hope the experts chime in to help you out. And I'm loving the big round breast on the blue next to your black mottled.

ETA : BTW, he said our boy had excellent type and we should enter him in the PA Farm Show. : ). I doubt I will, but at least I feel better about using him for breeding.
